(University of Texas) The University of Texas Libraries are leveraging technological advances in geographic information systems (GIS) to enhance the value of map collections at The University of Texas at Austin with the launch of a new portal that is designed to facilitate discovery of geospatial datasets that are ready to use in GIS software for map making and analysis.

Gale Engage, a new cloud-based solution launched today by the company, helps libraries become smarter, more impactful and efficient with patron outreach and engagement. Developed in partnership with Deziner Software, LLC, Gale Engage provides a 360-degree view of library activity across branches, enabling staff to analyze data, personalize marketing outreach and increase engagement with their communities. Gale Engage is ILS-agnostic and uses data from common library sources to develop groups, enabling library staff to more easily segment audiences and target email communications, driving more meaningful and engaging interactions. The dashboard provides visuals of key performance indicators and metrics, helping libraries measure their effectiveness.

(Ex Libris) Ex Libris announced that the University of Michigan Library has selected the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution to provide innovative services to the school’s diverse constituents. The University of Michigan Library is one of the largest research libraries in the United States, with almost 13 million volumes, 137,000 current serials, and more than 4.2 million annual visits. This scale and the library’s rapid growth rate were key business drivers for the strategic move to modern, cloud-based computing standards and capabilities, including multitenant software as a service (SaaS), and the selection of the Alma platform. Michigan has been a power user of the Ex Libris Aleph® library management system for more than 15 years.

(OCLC) Dr. Theresa S. Byrd, Dean of the University Library at the University of San Diego, took her seat on the OCLC Board of Trustees today during the board’s regular November meeting.

(OCLC) Chesapeake Public Library in Chesapeake, Virginia, has signed on to implement OCLC Wise, the first community engagement system for U.S. public libraries.

(OCLC) Greensboro Public Library in Greensboro, North Carolina, has signed on to implement OCLC Wise, the first community engagement system for U.S. public libraries.

(HighWire Press) Scholarly publishing technology provider, HighWire, today announced the appointment of Tim Bacci as President and Chief Executive Officer.

(OCLC) OCLC has partnered with Taylor and Francis to automate subscription management workflows, eliminating the need for manual intervention by library staff.

(Ex Libris) Ex Libris, a ProQuest Company, gibt hiermit bekannt, dass das Hochschulbibliothekszentrum des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (hbz) im Namen des nordrhein-westfälischen Verbundes den Vertrag mit Ex Libris über die Einführung der Bibliotheksdienstplattform Alma bei den 43 Mitgliedsinstitutionen des Verbundes unterzeichnet hat. Die Alma-Plattform wird acht verschiedene Systeme ersetzen, die derzeit im Einsatz sind.

(Follett) Two years after introducing its book fair business, Follett is launching Follett Book eFairs, an innovative approach to reimagining the classroom book-ordering process. Follett Book eFairs allow teachers to create an online book order in less than five minutes, make custom recommendations for students, and easily communicate with parents. Significantly, eFairs also will streamline the payment process by eliminating the need for teachers to handle cash or checks and paper order forms.

(EBSCO Information Services) Submissions are now being accepted for the fourth annual SEE-IT Award. SEE-IT stands for Stories Engagingly Expressed-Illustratively Told. The SEE-IT Award is an annual book award given by EBSCO Information Services and the Graphic Novel Committee of the Children’s Book Council to honor the outstanding achievements of authors and illustrators in youth graphic novels. Publishers are encouraged to submit titles for award consideration by February 15, 2020.

(KOMBIT) Den 9. oktober 2019 udsendte KOMBIT en høring til alle bibliotekschefer vedr. opløsning af Fællesskabet FBS som forening. Projektet foreslås videreført efter KOMBITs almindelige projektmodel, da dette vil være en forudsætning for at kunne etablere et fælles governance-setup for FBS og biblioteksinfrastrukturen i forbindelse med KOMBITs overtagelse af bestillerfunktionen til DBC.
