Newport News Public Library System invests in RFID technology. Prestigious grammar school becomes first UK school to install Bibliotheca RFID system. Kesteven and Grantham Girls' School based in Lincolnshire, UK, became the first school to install a range of RFID and self-service products offered by Bibliotheca, leading the way for the use of this technology in the UK schooling market. Ottawa Public Library opts for RFID. Bibliotheca announced it is working with the Ottawa Public Library to help bring RFID technology – including provision of all tags and conversion services in the year ahead, and much of the equipment for the first branch to switch to RFID – to North America’s largest bilingual (French and English) library system. SMARTRAC NV. SMARTRAC Surpasses Production Milestone of 200 Million Library Labels. SMARTRAC N.V., a leading developer, manufacturer and supplier of RFID transponders, announces that the company has produced and shipped more than 200 million labels for libraries and media management. The company also announced that SMARTRAC Investment B.V., a 100 percent subsidiary of SMARTRAC N.V., took an interest of some 20 percent in RFID Technologie B.V. in the amount of EUR 20 million as an opportunity to develop new products and applications. North Scituate Public Library to Install Bibliotheca RFID Solutions: Small Rhode Island library meets circulation demands with RFID. Bibliothec announced that North Scituate Public Library, Rhode Island, will be implementing Bibliotheca BiblioChip RFID labels as well as staff and security solutions. After completing renovations, the library plans to go live with Bibliotheca solutions in the September 2011 time frame. North Scituate is a member of the Ocean State Libraries consortium and will be the second public library in the state to adopt RFID technology. [Full Announcement].

Berkeley Public Library selects Bibliotheca RFID Solutions. Bibliotheca announced that Berkeley Public Library (California) will be outfitting its five branches with RFID tags, staff stations and security gates. The library will be phasing in the Bibliotheca RFID project in concert with its Branch Improvement Program. Implementation is estimated to take six to eight months. Integrated Technology Group. ITG Awarded Fullerton Public Library Contract for Full RFID Library Automation. The Fullerton Public Library in California selected Integrated Technology Group as its supplier for a full RFID implementation, bringing advanced materials flow and management technology with security to its main branch. All of the equipment and technology upgrades are part of a major library expansion and renovation that began June, 2010 and will continue until June, 2011. The FPL renovation is a result of Redevelopment Bond Funds that are part of the City of Fullerton’s Public Works projects that have been planned for several years. [Full Announcement].

Eastern Illinois University Textbook Rental Implements Tech Logic RFID Technology. Eastern Illinois University’s new Textbook Rental Building has installed Tech Logic’s UltraSort system and RFID self check equipment. Eastern Illinois University is one of just a handful of universities in the nation that allows students to rent rather than purchase their textbooks each semester, which can amount to thousands of dollars in savings for students over four years. EIU implemented eight self check-out stations with Tech Logic’s CircIT software that are integrated into the circulation desk in the library. These self check-out stations are also equipped with Tech Logic’s Smart Bins, which are mounted under the counter with a cutout for return. Students have the option of using the hands-free book return or the self check-out station to return books. [Full Announcement].
Integrated Technology Group. ITG Performs First US Installations of Dialoc ID Hybrid EM/RFID Security Gates. The Integrated Technology Group, the preferred North American partner of Dutch electronics manufacturer Dialoc ID, has performed the first U.S. installations of Dialoc’s EM/RFID Hybrid DiaMond loss prevention security system. ITG technicians installed Diamond security gates at the Benning Neighborhood Library and Northwest One Neighborhood Library branches, two of the 28-branch District of Columbia Public Library system. Libramation. Lloydminster Library chooses Libramation Inc. for RFID system. Lloydminster Public Library awarded a contract to Libramation Inc. for a full RFID system. Lloydminster will be phasing in their installation starting with tagging using Libramation Book and Media tags and Libramation’s Kameleon dual corridor entrance security gates. Circulation will be enhanced using two Lib-Chip SCOT Self Check units with Libramation Circulation desks to follow in fall of 2010, as well as check-in and basic sortation using a three bin ACT-Sort by end of the year.
