(Swets) Following the suspension of payment for Swets & Zeitlinger Group BV, granted by the court in Amsterdam on 19 September, the Management team, together with Mr J.L.M. Groenewegen, the appointed administrator, have been working tirelessly to investigate alternatives for the business. Unfortunately, concrete alternatives to sell the business as a whole have not materialised and due to these developments Swets Information Services B.V. filed for bankruptcy on 23 September 2014. The court of Amsterdam honoured this request and as per 23 September 2014 Swets Information Services B.V. is declared bankrupt.

(Swets) Swets Information Services, a global organization committed to improving the delivery and use of knowledge worldwide, and the charity Room to Read are delighted to announce the completion of the first joint project funded by donations from Swets; namely the creation of a new classroom library at the Government Primary School Nathu Khadi in India’s Uttarakhand province. The library provides facilities for over 100 pupils, aged between 6 and 11, and their four teachers.

(Swets) Swets announced that it has signed a reseller agreement with Eduserv, the non-profit dedicated to developing and delivering technology services for the public sector. This agreement sees Swets adding the highly popular OpenAthens advanced access management system to its portfolio of Access Management services for libraries.

(Swets) Swets announced that it has entered into a reseller arrangement with figshare. The agreement will see Swets actively promoting and selling figshare for institutions across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, excluding the United Kingdom. Figshare, a portfolio company of Digital Science, offers a cloud-based digital repository that enables researchers to preserve and share their research output, including figures, datasets, images, and videos.

Edward Elgar publishing is the leading international publisher of academic books and journals in economics, finance, business and management, law, environment, public and social policy. (Swets) As the open access publishing model expands at an increasing rate, new challenges naturally arise for libraries, publishers, funders and researchers. Libraries in particular have to develop, implement and manage new workflows and procedures throughout their institutions that are time consuming and resource-heavy. One of the major administrative burdens revolves around Article Processing Charges, which are paid to publishers for (Gold) Open Access papers. Swets has introduced a new APC management service in order to address this need directly.
