Elsevier Elsevier appoints Emily Singley to the newly created role of Vice President, North American Library Relations. Elsevier, a global leader in research publishing and information analytics, is pleased to announce the appointment of Emily Singley to the newly-created role of Vice President, Library Relations, North America. Emily will join Elsevier to strengthen the company's relationships with the North American library community, and to reinforce Elsevier's commitment to be a trusted, innovative, and collaborative provider of services and content. She will report to Gwen Evans, Vice President of Global Library Relations, who joined Elsevier in 2020 from OhioLink to lead the company's engagement and partnerships with the librarian community. Georg possesses many years of experience at the intersection of digital technology and publishing. In 2002, he joined Springer Nature as IT Team Leader. He delivered digital projects in Berlin, Dordrecht and Pune before moving on to lead the technical development of SpringerLink in London. Digital Public Library of America DPLA Board of Directors elects Felton Thomas as chair. The DPLA Board of Directors has elected Felton Thomas, Jr., executive director and CEO of Cleveland Public Library, as its new chair at its annual meeting last month. His term as chair will extend through June 2025. Thomas will replace Denise Stephens, the Peggy V. Helmerich Dean of University Libraries at the University of Oklahoma, whose term of service has ended after six years, the last three of which she served as board chair. [Full Announcement].

SPARC April Hathcock elected Chair of the SPARC Steering Committee. April Hathcock, Director of Scholarly Communications and Information Policy at New York University Libraries, has been elected to the position of Chair of the SPARC Steering Committee. Hathcock has served as a member of the committee, which provides oversight and guidance to the SPARC organization, since her election by SPARC members in December 2021. Clarivate Jonathan Gear assumes Chief Executive Officer role for Clarivate with Jerre Stead retirement. Clarivate announced that Jonathan Gear has assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer with the retirement of Jerre Stead from that role. Mr. Stead has transitioned to non-executive chair of the board of directors. Following the October board meeting, he will retire from the board, which has appointed Andrew Snyder as the new chair effective immediately following the October 20 board meeting. Mr. Snyder is CEO of Cambridge Information Group and Vice Chairman of Clarivate. He was previously Chair of ProQuest and joined the board when Clarivate acquired ProQuest in December 2021. California Digital Library Welcome Miranda Bennett, CDL's new Director of Shared Collections. California Digital Library announced that Miranda Bennett has been appointed as its new Director of Shared Collections, with a start date of October 3rd 2022. In collaboration with the ten University of California campuses, this program licenses shared digital materials, negotiates open access publisher agreements, acquires and catalogs scholarly content, and supports shared print library collections. As Director of Shared Collections, Miranda will provide leadership for the open access transformation of scholarly communications, the continuing integration of shared print into the lifecycle of library collections, and the evolution of long-standing systemwide collections services, including all aspects of licensing and access to digital resources. Springer Nature Martin Mos to retire from Springer Nature after nearly 20 years with the company. Marc Spené to join as new Chief Operating Officer. Publishing industry veteran Martin Mos, Chief Operating Officer and Management Board member of Springer Nature, is retiring after 19 years with the company and more than 30 years in the publishing industry. Martin's numerous successes include overseeing the company's digital transformation, the creation of an industry leading technology and production approach and leading the health and professional businesses to commercial success. Martin will be succeeded by Marc Spenlé who will join Springer Nature as Chief Operating Officer and Management Board Member on September 15. Marc, who was previously Chief Digital and Information Officer for Barco NV, brings a wealth of experience from the technology and telecoms industries where he held senior operational roles and led digital transformations working in multiple geographies. Library of Congress Library of Congress appoints leaders to advance digital-forward strategy for discovery and preservation of collections. The Library of Congress today announced the appointment of two digital transformation leaders to direct acquisition, discovery, use and preservation of the Library's collections. Kate Zwaard has been appointed associate librarian for Discovery and Preservation Services. A strategic leader with 20 years of experience in government and libraries, Zwaard will lead more than 600 employees responsible for acquisitions, cataloging, preservation and discovery of Library collections. Trevor Owens has been appointed as the director of digital services, one of three directorates in the new Discovery and Preservation Services unit led by Zwaard. With nearly 100 employees, Digital Services is responsible for the Library's digital collections, digitization, discovery and metadata management services. This includes internationally recognized web archiving and crowdsourcing programs. [Full Announcement].

Clarivate Clarivate announces retirement of Chief Executive Officer Jerre Stead and appointment of Jonathan Gear as new CEO. Clarivate announced that Jerre Stead, Executive Chair and Chief Executive Officer, is retiring from his CEO role effective September 1, 2022, but will continue as Non-Executive Chair of the Board of Directors. During Mr. Stead's tenure as Clarivate CEO, the company has nearly tripled in size both in revenue and colleague population, delivered strong cash flow, completed multiple strategic acquisitions, and aligned into a customer- and colleague-centric enterprise. The board of directors has selected Jonathan Gear to succeed Mr. Stead. Mr. Gear is joining Clarivate as CEO-elect and a member of the board of directors on July 11, 2022. Mr. Gear will become Chief Executive Officer on September 1, 2022, at which time Mr. Stead will become Non-Executive Chair. [Full Announcement].

Follett Chris Porter named CEO of Software for Follett School Solutions. Follett School Solutions announced Chris Porter, who brings more than 20 years of experience leading education technology businesses, has been appointed CEO of Follett School Solutions, Software. He succeeds Paul Ilse, who will remain involved with Follett School Solutions as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Porter most recently served as CEO of Apex Learning, where he guided the digital education company through unprecedented growth during his tenure. Jennifer Meehan, head of the Eberly Family Special Collections Library at Penn State University, has been named director of the Library of Congress' Special Collections Directorate effective Aug. 1. Patron Point Patron Point appoints Brenna Hill as Library Relations Manager. Patron Point announced that Brenna Hill has joined the organization as Library Relations Manager. Hill comes to the Company with customer service, account management, and marketing experience, most recently from THE MAX Challenge where she served as Franchise Marketing Coordinator for their corporate office. There she headed the franchise sales program, presented marketing webinars, coached existing franchisees on their marketing content, and created content for all MAX Challenge franchisees including email, social media, print, and written. NISO Announcing the NISO Board of Directors for 2022-23. The National Information Standards Organization announced the results of its recent Board elections for the term beginning July 1, 2022. Maria Stanton will transition to the role of Chair of the NISO Board, having served as Vice Chair for the past year. She is replaced as Vice Chair by Karim Boughida who will assume the role of Chair for 2023-24 next July. Mary Sauer-Games rotates to the position of Past Chair, having served as NISO Chair for 2021-22. The company has not had a formal Customer Service Manager since the departure of Myrna Gagnier in August 2021.
