OverDrive appoints Eric Miller to lead the company's data and information science services. OverDrive, the world's leading digital content provider for libraries and schools, announced today the appointment of Eric Miller as the company's first Director of Data and Information Science. With a wealth of experience in library data systems, Miller will lead a team of researchers, engineers, platform and app developers, and content specialists introducing supplemental search and visual knowledge maps to OverDrive's platforms, apps, and catalogs. Miller will oversee OverDrive's expanding data repositories, which process billions of transactions each month. Elsevier appoints Stuart Whayman as President of Corporate Markets. Cristin Hipke Joins NISO as Standards Program Manager. The National Information Standards Organization announced that Cristin Hipke has joined the organization this month in the role of Standards Program Manager. Cristin will help to advance NISO's mission of developing authoritative standards for the information community by leading volunteer working groups and committees and providing them with organizational, logistical, and promotional support. Library appoints new Chief for National Audio-Visual Conservation Center. The Library of Congress has named Rachael Stoeltje as the new chief of the Library's National Audio-Visual Conservation Center, which includes the Library's Packard Campus in Culpeper, Virginia, beginning in January 2025. Stoeltje will oversee the state-of-the-art facility where the Library of Congress acquires, preserves and provides access to the world's largest and most comprehensive collection of films, television programs, radio broadcasts and sound recordings. Maria Castresana joins Springer Nature as new Chief People Officer. Maria Castresana has joined Springer Nature as its new Chief People Officer reporting to the Chief Executive. Maria takes over from Gregor Karolus, Chief HR Officer following his retirement at the end of October. As Chief People Officer, she is part of Springer Nature's Executive Committee. Rebecca Lawrence appointed as new Chief Executive of the British Library. Rebecca Lawrence has been appointed as the new Chief Executive of the British Library and will take up the role from 2 January 2025. She succeeds Sir Roly Keating, who has led the Library since 2012. Rebecca has had a long and successful career in leadership roles across the public service and university sector. From 2019 to 2023 she was Chief Executive of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), where she led the organisation through the pandemic, implementing large scale innovation to improve performance and support digital transformation. Prior to leading the CPS, she was a founder and first CEO of the Mayor's Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC), serving as Director of Strategy and Resourcing from 2013 to 2016, and Chief Executive from 2016 to 2019. Core Board appoints Don Allgeier as President-Elect. The Core Board of Directors decided on Thursday, October 17, 2024, that Don Allgeier will be the 2024-2025 president-elect effective immediately. He will assume the office of President for the 2025-2026 term and Past-President for the 2026-2027 term. Allgeier serves as Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee and is in his third year serving on the Core Board of Directors. On October 10 it was announced that Kevin A. R. King had regretfully made the decision to step down from the President-elect role citing his new Library Director role requires his full attention. He took office as president elect after ALA Annual Conference in early July, and he would have been president in 2025-26. Marcel LaFlamme named ARL Director, Research Policy and Scholarship. The Association of Research Libraries has appointed Marcel LaFlamme as director, Research Policy and Scholarship, effective November 12, 2024. Marcel currently serves as an open research manager at the Public Library of Science. As ARL director, Research Policy and Scholarship, Marcel will be responsible for leading the Association's Scholars and Scholarship portfolio. This portfolio includes activities in data-intensive and technologically enabled scholarship, such as AI; new modes of publishing; open science; and community-engaged scholarship.
