OCLC partners with Dutch library consortia on Open Access Discovery research. OCLC Research is partnering with two Dutch library consortia -- Universiteitbibliotheken en Nationale Bibliotheek (UKB) and Samenwerkingsverband Hogeschoolbibliotheken -- to investigate ways that libraries at universities and universities of applied sciences can improve the discoverability of scholarly, peer-reviewed open access (OA) publications for their communities. Gale Primary Sources release new archives dedicated to underrepresented histories. Gale, part of Cengage Group, is supporting academic initiatives in diversity, equity and inclusion with the release of six new archives on the Gale Primary Sources platform. These archives explore the stories of LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, women, Native Americans and other underrepresented communities. Swiss Library Service Platform. Le Consortium des bibliothèques universitaires suisses rejoint la SLSP. Nous y voilà: le 1er janvier 2020, le Consortium des bibliothèques universitaires suisses rejoindra la SLSP. Les universités cantonales, le Domaine des EPF, les hautes écoles spécialisées et la Bibliothèque nationale ont fondé ce consortium en l’an 2000. Depuis lors, la bibliothèque EPF a dirigé le consortium dans le cadre d’un projet. La transition vers une organisation permanente fait l’objet de discussions depuis quelque temps. Avec la SLSP, le cadre idéal a été trouvé. C’est pourquoi le consortium a été intégré dès le début aux demandes de projet de la SLSP. Deutscher Verbund in NRW entscheidet sich für die Bibliotheksdienstplattform Ex Libris Alma. Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de Montpellier Joins the Université Fédérale Toulouse Midi-Pyrénées to become the first French library network to choose Ex Libris Alma and Primo. Ex Libris announced that the Bibliothèque Interuniversitaire de Montpellier (BIU, or Interuniversity Library of Montpellier) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and the Primo discovery and delivery solution to optimize library management and discovery. James H. Billington to retire as Librarian effective Jan. 1, 2016. James H. Billington, the 13th Librarian of Congress and renowned scholar of Russia, today announced that he will retire from the position of Librarian effective January 1, 2016. Billington informed President Barack Obama and called congressional leadership to share his plans. The vacancy will be filled by presidential nomination, with confirmation by the U.S. Senate. ProQuest transforms research with digitization of rare, historical works from Bibliothèque nationale de France. Researchers can now explore early European history and culture as it happened with ProQuest’s release of the first 2 million pages in its massive digitization project with Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. When complete, the project will give researchers cover to cover access to more than 28,000 rare European books printed from 1400 to 1700 – 10 million pages – in crisp, fully searchable images. Approximately 5,800 titles are now available in Collections 4 and 6 of ProQuest’s Early European Books, enabling researchers around the world to benefit from the Library’s centuries of acquisition, curation and preservation.
