OCLC's Syndeo provides foundation for K10plus, the new collaborative database created by BSZ and GBV. The Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Wuerttemberg (BSZ) and Verbundzentrale des GBV (VZG) have announced the launch of a new joint initiative, K10plus. The new collaboration will result in the largest catalog for scientific libraries in Germany and is developed using OCLC's Syndeo, a suite of services that facilitates national and regional library collaboration. Germany's Common Bibliographic Data Zone goes live with University of Mannheim as the first member institution. Ex Libris announced that the University of Mannheim, a member of the Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg (BSZ) consortium, has become the first university in Germany to be connected to the Common Bibliographic Data Zone (CBDZ). The CBDZ is a collaboration between BSZ and two other major German consortia—Verbundzentrale des Gemeinsamen Bibliotheksverbunds (VZG) and Hochschulbibliothekszentrum des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (hbz). The Ex Libris Alma resource management service, and particularly the advanced Alma Network Zone capabilities, serves as the CBDZ's technology infrastructure. [Full Announcement].

Three major German consortia and Ex Libris join forces for an Alma-based common bibliographic data zone. Ex Libris announced that the Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg (BSZ), the Verbundzentrale des Gemeinsamen Bibliotheksverbunds (VZG), and the Hochschulbibliothekszentrum des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen (hbz) consortia have selected the Alma resource management service as the technology infrastructure for their new Common Bibliographic Data Zone, which will be based on the advanced Alma Network Zone capabilities. The Library Service Center for Baden-Wuerttemberg (BSZ) in Germany joins the Alma Early Adopter Program. Ex Libris announced that the Library Service Center for Baden-Württemberg in Germany has decided to participate in the Ex Libris Alma Early Adopter Program for libraries in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The BSZ will actively support the launch of the next-generation library system of the members of the Southwest German Library Network (SWB) consortia who have already chosen Alma. Additionally, together with Ex Libris, the BSZ will develop central services based on the Alma Network Zone for consortium members. [Full Announcement].

CBS well received at BSZ. The OCLC PICA central library system CBS became fully operational within 1,200 libraries in the German states Baden-Württemberg, Saarland and Sachsen on 19 December 2005. [Full Announcement].

BSZ implements OCLC PICA's Central Library System (CBS). OCLC PICA announced that the Online Public Access Catalogue in the Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden-Württemberg (BSZ) in Konstanz has become operational. The new BSZ OPAC can also be searched via the virtual catalogue Karlsruher Virtueller Katalog (KVK), where it has replaced the access to the former OPAC of the Südwestdeutschen Bibliotheksverbund (SWB). By this, the first part of the implementation of a Central Library System in Bibliotheksservice-Zentrum Baden- Württemberg (BSZ) is completed successfully. [Full Announcement].
