National Endowment for the Humanities NEH Announces $26.2 Million for 238 Humanities Projects Nationwide. The National Endowment for the Humanities announced $26.2 million in grants for 238 humanities projects across the country. Grants awarded today will underwrite a new permanent exhibition at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh on how the Nile River shaped ancient Egyptians' ideas of life and death; provide for treatment and digitization of photo collections at Appalshop documenting Appalachia's social, cultural, and economic history that were damaged by catastrophic flooding in Kentucky; and support archaeological research at the sites of two former boarding schools on the Blackfeet reservation in Montana. Private Academic Library Network of Indiana PALNI awards grants to fund eight open textbooks. The Private Academic Library Network of Indiana (PALNI) has awarded PALSave Textbook Creation Grants to fund eight open textbooks from faculty authors at its supported institutions. The grants will allow these educators to develop open textbooks that are freely available online, making them part of a statewide effort to reduce the cost of course materials for college students. Financed with support from Lilly Endowment Inc., authors will receive up to $6,500 per project. [Full Announcement].

Private Academic Library Network of Indiana PALSave Textbook Creation Grant program releases first open textbook, The Bible and Music. In “The Bible and Music,” the first open textbook published with a grant from the PALSave: PALNI Affordable Learning program, author James McGrath, Ph.D., Clarence L. Goodwin Chair in New Testament Language and Literature at Butler University, explores the intersection of faith and music while inviting readers to experience the material firsthand through interactive video and audio clips. LexisNexis LexisNexis announces acquisition of legal transaction management platform Closd. LexisNexis Legal & Professional announced that it has acquired Closd, a top-tier provider of legal transaction management in Europe, founded in 2018. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed. Closd operates a legal transaction management SaaS platform that makes the management of complex legal projects simpler, safer and faster. Its end-to-end legal project management solution includes automated workflow management, secure document sharing, data rooms, electronic closing, transaction bible generation and document archiving. The Episcopal Public Library of Barcelona, the oldest preserved public access library in the city of Barcelona, has announced the addition of more than 124,000 bibliographic records of its catalogue collections to WorldCat. ProQuest ProQuest transforms research with digitization of rare, historical works from Bibliothèque nationale de France. Researchers can now explore early European history and culture as it happened with ProQuest’s release of the first 2 million pages in its massive digitization project with Bibliothèque nationale de France in Paris. When complete, the project will give researchers cover to cover access to more than 28,000 rare European books printed from 1400 to 1700 – 10 million pages – in crisp, fully searchable images. Approximately 5,800 titles are now available in Collections 4 and 6 of ProQuest’s Early European Books, enabling researchers around the world to benefit from the Library’s centuries of acquisition, curation and preservation. Calyx. Harvest Bible College live on Koha. Harvest Bible College has adopted the Koha library management system to provide a combined catalogue for its four Australian campuses. VTLS, Inc.. Jewish Public Library to become the first public library in the world to adopt RDA/FRBR. In February 2012, Jewish Public Library/ Bibliothèque publique juive, in Montreal, Quebec will become the first public library in the world to adopt the RDA/FRBR standard by implementing the FRBR/RDA capabilities of their Virtua ILS. JPL joined VTLS in 1994, and implemented the Chamo Social OPAC in 2011. The FRBR/RDA implementation in Virtua extends the functions of the traditional bibliographic record, which will make it easier for patrons of JPL to find and obtain information. Virtua is currently the only ILS offering full FRBR and RDA Scenario 1 support. [Full Announcement].
