World Wide Web Consortium W3C to become a public-interest non-profit organization. The World Wide Web Consortium is set to pursue 501(c)(3) non-profit status. The launch as a new legal entity in January 2023 preserves the core mission of the Consortium to shepherd the web by developing open standards with contributions from W3C Members, staff, and the international community. Gale Group Gale Primary Sources release new archives dedicated to underrepresented histories. Gale, part of Cengage Group, is supporting academic initiatives in diversity, equity and inclusion with the release of six new archives on the Gale Primary Sources platform. These archives explore the stories of LGBTQ+ communities worldwide, women, Native Americans and other underrepresented communities. Gale Primary Sources provide librarians, students and scholars with historical context on controversial issues from a wide range of perspectives underscoring how the past has shaped today's political and civil rights movements across the globe. Axiell Axiell announces agreement to acquire Infor Library and Information Solutions business and expand global presence. Axiell, the world's leading software and services provider for the cultural sector, today announced an agreement to acquire Infor Library & Information Solutions, a business within Infor, the industry cloud company. The acquisition is expected to close in February. The Infor Library & Information Solutions business delivers solutions and services to the library sector and serves more than 180 customers in Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Greece, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States. Recorded Books RBmedia and Asmodee Partner to Bring Aconyte's Novels to Audio. RBmedia, the largest audiobook producer in the world, today announced an exclusive partnership with international games company Asmodee, through its publishing arm Aconyte Books. Through this multi-year agreement, the company will add audio editions of Aconyte's tie-in novels to its industry-leading range of science fiction and fantasy books. [Full Announcement].

National Institute of Informatics Renewal of Academic Information System After 36 Years New Catalog Information Service Corresponding to Digital Resources to Be Introduced from 2022. National Institute of Informatics (NII; Director General: Dr. KITSUREGAWA Masaru, Tokyo, Japan) has begun reconstruction of NACSIS-CAT/ILL, a catalog information service used by more than 1,300 institutions, mainly university libraries. Kinokuniya Company. NII and Kinokuniya to build a New NACSIS-CAT/ILL System for Digitization of Academic Resources and Provision of World Class Service. Kinokuniya Company was appointed to undertake the project commissioned by National Institute of Informatics Provision of Catalog Information Service and Electronic Resource Management System. NACSIS-CAT/ILL, the catalog information service operated by NII, is currently used by more than 1,300 institutions, mainly university libraries, as a union catalog database comprehensively covering Japanese academic resources. Through the reconstruction and enhancement of NACSIS-CAT/ILL by the cooperation of domestic and international system vendors, Kinokuniya contributes to establishing the academic research infrastructure in Japan which willadvance the digitization of academic resources and the provision of world class service. Axiell Axiell partners with Adimeo to bring next-generation library services platform to France. Axiel announced a strategic partnership with Adimeo, a tech and consulting company based in France. The partnership grants Adimeo exclusive distribution rights to bring Axiell's Quria product, a library services platform designed for the modern public library, to French-speaking European markets. ProQuest France's Le Monde Newspaper Archive will be available to academic and public Libraries through ProQuest. Researchers will soon have a new and invaluable resource for exploring the history and culture of France from 1944 to 2000. The historical archive of Le Monde – considered one of the newspapers of record for France and one of the best-known and most influential publications in the world – will be available in full-page digital image format to academic and public libraries through ProQuest in March 2021. Coherent Digital launched Policy Commons, a new resource to help researchers, educators, students, and policymakers benefit from the work of top policy experts, publishers, nonpartisan think tanks, IGOs, and NGOs. Policy Commons is a discovery service, an aggregation of premium content, a social network, a hosting service, a curation service, an alert service, a repository to save at-risk content, an impact analytics service, and a suite of tools to enrich content. OCLC has signed agreements with leading publishers and other content providers around the world to add metadata for high-quality electronic and print books, journals, databases, and other learning materials that will make their content discoverable through WorldCat Discovery. EBSCO Information Services EBSCO Information Services and BibLibre Partner to Support Libraries in France. EBSCO Information Services and BibLibre have partnered to support libraries adopting the FOLIO Library Services Platform. EBSCO and BibLibre will work together to provide reliable hosting and local support services. Currently, BibLibre supports libraries using Koha, Coral (ERM), Bokeh (portal) or Omeka (digital resources) in France and Europe. Springer. PROJEKT DEAL and SPRINGER NATURE reach understanding on world´s largest transformative Open Access agreement. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed today between MPDL Services, on behalf of Projekt DEAL, and Springer Nature sets the scene for the world’s most comprehensive open access (OA) agreement to be finalised later this year. Reaching such an understanding has been possible through acknowledgement of the common commitment of both parties to the principle of open science: Projekt DEAL’s vision and enablement of open access to German research on a large-scale and Springer Nature’s position as the largest OA publisher and their expertise as a pioneer of transformative deals. The agreement is expected to see well over 13,000 articles a year from German researchers published OA, meaning they will be freely and universally available for the world’s students, scholars and scientists to read, share, use and reuse from the moment of publication. British Library. New research proposes five options for a digital presence for public libraries. A new report from the British Library, commissioned by Arts Council England and the Carnegie UK Trust, has set out five possible options for digital transformation for UK public libraries. The recommendations paper, Digital Transformations for UK public libraries: five approaches to a ‘Single Digital Presence’ , sets out what a national online platform (or “single digital presence”) for public libraries could look like, what it could be used for and how such an offering might fit in with existing digital library systems.
