Georg possesses many years of experience at the intersection of digital technology and publishing. In 2002, he joined Springer Nature as IT Team Leader. He delivered digital projects in Berlin, Dordrecht and Pune before moving on to lead the technical development of SpringerLink in London. In 2017, Georg joined Heise Medien, a leading publisher for IT specialist information in the DACH region, as Chief Technology Officer. [Full Announcement].

Springer Nature Success of transformative agreement between Springer Nature and Projekt DEAL means 2019 partnership extended for fourth year. In 2019 Springer Nature and Germany's Projekt DEAL signed what was at the time the world's largest, most comprehensive, transformative agreement. Encompassing 2,500 journals with the expectation of enabling 13,000 articles to be published open access each year, it reflected the commitment of both parties to the principles of open science and advancing the transition to OA. The success of the agreement can be seen in that 97% of affiliated authors with eligible universities and institutions in Germany took advantage of the opportunity to publish their articles OA without needing to pay an APC. In addition, in 2021 the agreement saw over 16,000 (+13% on 2020) new research articles in Springer Nature's fully OA and hybrid journals made freely and openly accessible for scholars everywhere - 60% of all the articles published under DEAL agreements. Springer Nature Martin Mos to retire from Springer Nature after nearly 20 years with the company. Marc Spené to join as new Chief Operating Officer. Publishing industry veteran Martin Mos, Chief Operating Officer and Management Board member of Springer Nature, is retiring after 19 years with the company and more than 30 years in the publishing industry. Martin's numerous successes include overseeing the company's digital transformation, the creation of an industry leading technology and production approach and leading the health and professional businesses to commercial success. Martin will be succeeded by Marc Spenlé who will join Springer Nature as Chief Operating Officer and Management Board Member on September 15. Marc, who was previously Chief Digital and Information Officer for Barco NV, brings a wealth of experience from the technology and telecoms industries where he held senior operational roles and led digital transformations working in multiple geographies. Elsevier Oable incorporates all of Elsevier's Journals. Elsevier is establishing a pilot with Oable, the open access workflow management solution developed by Knowledge Unlatched, to simplify the librarian approval workflow for open access publishing. Oable supports libraries in managing their OA activities across publishers, including different types of commercial agreements and products. The new partnership will be piloted with select institutions with the aim of streamlining transactions and reducing the administrative burden on librarians and university officials. This means librarians for the institutions participating in the pilot will be able to manage their OA agreements and arrangements for all Elsevier journals through the Oable platform. Springer Nature created a new senior role to support its development of digital solutions and innovative platforms for the research community. Leading an expanded team, Harsh Jegadeesan will join the company from SAP on February 1st as Chief Solutions Officer, reporting into the Chief Executive. Overdrive Record Number of Library Systems Surpass 1 Million Ebook Circulation for 2021. A total of 121 public libraries and consortia based in seven countries and from 37 U.S. states each loaned more than one million ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines in 2021. This milestone was achieved in partnership with OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools worldwide and creator of the award-winning Libby reading app. Twenty-two library systems joined the Million+ Circulation status for the first time in 2021. LibLynx has integrated data from theIPregistry.org into its Identity & Access solution to enable publishers to automatically maintain registered IP addresses. Overdrive OverDrive Receives President's E Award for Exports. At a ceremony in Washington, D.C. today, the U.S. Department of Commerce presented the 2021 President's “E” Award for Exports to OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries and schools worldwide. OverDrive was chosen for their significant sustained global growth and demonstrated excellence in exporting for at least four years to a wide range of international markets. This award was created in 1961 by Executive Order of President John F. The publishing group Axel Springer signed an agreement to acquire POLITICO, including the remaining 50 percent share of its current joint venture POLITICO Europe, as well as the tech news website Protocol from Robert Allbritton. Springer Nature Springer Nature introduces trans inclusive name change policy. Springer Nature has today announced the launch of its inclusive author name change policy (1), which will enable transgender authors and those authors at risk (2) to retroactively update their name on the version of record (VOR) and associated metadata in all Springer Nature journals, books and conference proceedings. Springer Nature Springer Nature launches new publication portal for dissertations. Researchers wishing to publish their dissertation or postdoctoral thesis with Springer Nature can now benefit from a new streamlined and author-friendly publication portal. BookSubMarine (Submitted book Manuscripts are in evaluation) supports authors of theses in STM (Science Technology Medicine) and HSS (Humanities Social Sciences) throughout the entire publication process. Prospective authors submit the required data to the portal, such as their manuscript and a review, and select the desired publication model (Open Access, Basic or Premium). Springer Nature Springer Nature strengthens its position in conference proceedings and driving OA publishing with purchase of Atlantis Press. Springer Nature has acquired Atlantis Press, an open access (OA) publisher specialising in conference proceedings and journal publishing, founded in 2006 in Paris. Containing more than 1,200 conference proceedings, the Atlantis Press portfolio is a valuable addition to Springer Nature's book portfolio. It will further strengthen Springer Nature's position as a leader in the conference proceedings market, where it already publishes over 1,800 titles a year, and its leadership position in open access publishing. Ex Libris Technische Universität Berlin becomes first university in Germany to opt for Ex Libris Leganto course reading list tool. Ex Libris, a ProQuest company, announced that Technische Universität (TU) Berlin has selected the Leganto course reading list solution to facilitate new methods of teaching and to increase support for distance learning. For a number of years, the university's library has been using the Ex Libris Alma library services platform and Ex Libris Primo discovery and delivery solution. Springer Nature German institutions to benefit from first Transformative Agreement for Nature. Springer Nature and the Max Planck Digital Library (MPDL) have agreed an approach that will deliver the first ever transformative agreement (TA) for Nature and Nature-branded journals. Building on the nationwide Projekt DEAL agreement concluded last January for Springer Nature journals, the commercial framework agreed with MPDL will now be offered to German institutions, in time for a January 2021 start. The transformative agreement, which will run for four years, enables authors affiliated with participating institutions to publish their research articles accepted for publication in Nature and Nature-branded research journals immediately open access at no cost to them. Participating institutions will also gain read access to the complete Nature portfolio, including Nature Review titles and all forthcoming Nature-branded journals. [Full Announcement].
