MIT Press WVU Libraries joins MIT Press Open Access Publishing Initiative. MIT Press announced the launch of its Direct-to-Open framework. In this model, rather than purchasing licenses to eBook titles individually or through packages, libraries pay annual participation fees that support open access book publishing. Participating libraries gain access to new MIT Press titles -- around 90 titles per year -- as well as its eligible backlist of approximately 2,300 books. D2O features two non-overlapping collections of scholarly monographs and edited volumes: Humanities & Social Sciences and STEAM. Anyone can read the OA titles free of cost on the MIT Press website, regardless of institutional affiliation. [Full Announcement].

OCLC OCLC releases more than 150 million WorldCat Entities as the foundation of a linked data infrastructure. OCLC has completed a project, funded in part by a grant from the Mellon Foundation, to develop a shared entity management infrastructure that supports linked data initiatives in the library community. As a result of this effort, OCLC has released millions of authoritative WorldCat Entities through a publicly searchable website and will continue to partner with libraries to develop the tools needed to fully incorporate linked data into library workflows and improve resource discovery through connections. COAR COAR welcomes significant funding for the Notify Project. COAR has been awarded a US$4 million grant from Arcadia, a charitable fund of Lisbet Rausing and Peter Baldwin. The 4 year grant will go towards the COAR Notify Project, which is developing and implementing a standard protocol for connecting the content in the distributed repository network with peer reviews and assessments in external services, using linked data notifications. Since 2019, the Freckle Report releases a full report of the ways in which consumer reading habits are changing and the role books play in American culture. Gale Group The University of Nottingham drives 21st-century data literacy with Gale Digital Scholar Lab. Gale, part of Cengage Group, is helping the University of Nottingham expand its digital research methods for teaching and learning digital humanities. The university is using Gale Digital Scholar Lab within its Digital Transformation Hub to support students in the widespread digital shift in humanities. The Lab makes digital research methods available to all of the university's students and researchers. This enables professors and researchers to look at large amounts of data without learning a new set of tools—and students to develop transferable 21st-century skills that they can use beyond college and in the workplace. American Chemical Society Institutions partner with ACS to advance first California-wide transformative open access agreement. Three California consortia, representing nearly 60 academic and research institutions, and the Publications Division of the American Chemical Society (ACS) today announced the first-ever California-wide transformative open access agreement. It is also ACS' first “read and publish” agreement in the U.S. composed of multiple consortia. Through a partnership with the 10-campus University of California (UC) system, the 23-campus California State University (CSU) system, and 25 subscribing institutions represented by the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium (SCELC), readers and researchers at dozens of California research institutions will be able to benefit from full access to subscription content while receiving support for open access publication in ACS' portfolio of more than 75 premier chemistry journals.
