ORCID ORCID announces launch of new Global Participation Program and $1M Global Participation Fund. In an extension of their original support of ORCID's vision, AIP Publishing, American Physical Society, Cambridge University Press, CCC, Elsevier, Hindawi, IOP Publishing, PLOS, Taylor & Francis, and Wiley have once again demonstrated their commitment to ORCID by forgiving all or part of their original start-up loans to ORCID. These generous contributions, totaling just under US$ 1M, will support the establishment of an exciting initiative that aims to increase participation in interconnected research infrastructure in currently under-represented regions, with the ultimate aim to improve the visibility of researchers and reduce administrative burden on both researchers and institutions around the world. Clarivate  Clarivate commits to #StandWithUkraine with launch of Resource Center for Displaced Researchers  . Clarivate, a global leader in providing trusted information and insights to accelerate the pace of innovation, launched a package of valuable Clarivate resources of software tools, information and insights to support displaced researchers from Ukraine. The resource center also contains news and content to help raise the profile, knowledge and understanding of Ukraine across the world. Cambridge University Press New agreements in the US advance Cambridge’s open access publishing goals. Transformative agreements with both the NERL and OhioLINK library consortia will support researchers at dozens more US universities and higher education institutions to publish their findings open access in Cambridge journals. Solus SOLUS offers consortia-friendly app within an app mobile option. SOLUS announced the growing deployment of consortia “templates”, essentially an app-within-an-app, for member libraries within a consortium. A unique-to-the-SOLUS-mobile app is its ability to support consortium subscriptions, and then allow member libraries to have their own template, akin to an app-within-an-app. These templates then link to the master subscription – but at a fraction of the price of another stand-alone subscription. Ubiquity Press University of North Alabama Upgrades Its Institutional Repository with Ubiquity Repositories. The end of 2021 saw the launch of University of North Alabama's Repository of Open Access Research (RoOAR) powered by Ubiquity Repositories. Overdrive Public Libraries and Schools Surpass Half a Billion Digital Book Loans in 2021. As the pandemic persisted in 2021, librarians and educators enabled readers worldwide to borrow 506 million ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines, a 16% increase over 2020. With a focus on equity of access to books for all, libraries achieved all-time records for circulation while lowering the average cost-per-title borrowed. 2021 also produced a banner year of book sales and earnings to the authors and publishers who supply digital books to libraries. Data was reported by OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for 76,000 libraries and schools in 94 countries worldwide. [Full Announcement].

EBSCO Information Services GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCO now offers manchesterhive from Manchester University Press. GOBI Library Solutions from EBSCOnow supports the Manchester University Press  e-book platform, manchesterhive. With the addition of the manchesterhive platform, libraries will gain access to more than 2,000 DRM-free title-by-title e-books and nine eCollections through GOBI. LibLynx has integrated data from into its Identity & Access solution to enable publishers to automatically maintain registered IP addresses. United States Congress. Wyden and Eshoo Press for Answers on Restrictive E-Book Agreements That Limit Libraries’ Digital Lending. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden, D-Ore., and Rep. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., today sought answers about expensive, restrictive e-book lending contracts with libraries, in letters to nine e-book aggregators and platforms. Aggregators are middlemen that license e-books to libraries on behalf of book publishers, and can also develop the e-lending platforms used by library patrons. The questions are part of Wyden and Eshoo's ongoing inquiry into restrictions on public and academic libraries' ability to lend e-books. [Full Announcement].

Association of Research Libraries University of California, Santa Cruz to Become 126th Member of ARL. At its Fall 2021 Association Meeting held virtually September 28–October 6, the membership of the Association of Research Libraries voted to invite University of California, Santa Cruz Library to join ARL as the 126th member, effective January 1, 2022.
