Massachusetts Institute of Technology The MIT Press launches Direct to Open. The MIT Press has announced the launch of Direct to Open (D2O). A first-of-its-kind sustainable framework for open access monographs, D2O moves professional and scholarly books from a solely market-based, purchase model where individuals and libraries buy single eBooks, to a collaborative, library-supported open access model. Hindawi. C19 Rapid Review Initiative expands to include 20 publishers and organizations. In response to the current pandemic and in order to increase the efficiency of peer review and publication process of crucial COVID-19 research, Hindawi, the Royal Society, PLOS and PeerJ came together to create a reviewer pool and implement portable review. This collaboration quickly evolved into the C19 Rapid Review Initiative - a large-scale collaboration among publishers and organizations across the scholarly publishing industry. The initiative calls for volunteer reviewers to commit to rapid reviewing times and to pre-agree that their reviews and identity can be shared among publishers and journals, if submissions get rerouted to different publication venues. Digital Science The State of Open Data 2019 – Global Attitudes towards Open Data. Figshare, the online digital repository for academic research, launched its annual report The State of Open Data 2019, to coincide with global celebrations around Open Access Week. The report is the fourth in the series and includes survey results and a collection of articles from global industry experts, as well as a foreword from Paul Ayris, Pro-Vice-Provost (UCL Library Services). The State of Open Data is now the longest running longitudinal study on the subject, which was created in 2016 to examine attitudes and experiences of researchers working with open data – sharing it, reusing it, and redistributing it. RedLink. RedLink Network welcomes new members to Advisory Council. RedLink Network announced new members of its Advisory Council for the new term. New members include Rita Scheman, Director of Publications and Executive Editor, American Physiological Society; Ann Okerson, Senior Advisor on Electronic Strategies, Center for Research Libraries, and INASP Associate; and Carly Ryan, Licensing Programs Manager at SCELC, the Statewide California Electronic Library Consortium. Internet Archive Internet Archive collaborates with the MIT Press and Arcadia to digitize and provide access to hundreds of MIT Press backlist titles. The MIT Press and the Internet Archive announced a partnership, with support from Arcadia, to scan, preserve, and enable libraries to lend hundreds of MIT Press books that are currently not available digitally. This partnership represents an important advance in bringing acclaimed titles across the MIT Press’ publications in science, technology, art, and architecture to a global online audience. Academic Complete, the flagship ebook collection from ProQuest’s ebook platform, ebrary, has added 20,000 titles to its selection of in-demand scholarly academic monographs. The additional titles come from renowned publishers such as Ashgate, Edinburgh University Press, Harvard University Press, Peter Lang, MIT Press, and Wiley.
