Elsevier Elsevier appoints Laura Hassink as Managing Director, STM Journals. Elsevier, a global leader in research publishing and information analytics, is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Hassink as the new Managing Director for STM Journals, succeeding Philippe Terheggen, who has retired at the end of 2021 after a distinguished 30-year career at Elsevier. Laura will be responsible for Elsevier's portfolio of 2,650 journals managed by more than 24,000 editors, who collectively publish more than 560,000 research articles a year. [Full Announcement].

Ubiquity Press University of North Alabama Upgrades Its Institutional Repository with Ubiquity Repositories. The end of 2021 saw the launch of University of North Alabama's Repository of Open Access Research (RoOAR) powered by Ubiquity Repositories. Overdrive Public Libraries and Schools Surpass Half a Billion Digital Book Loans in 2021. As the pandemic persisted in 2021, librarians and educators enabled readers worldwide to borrow 506 million ebooks, audiobooks and digital magazines, a 16% increase over 2020. With a focus on equity of access to books for all, libraries achieved all-time records for circulation while lowering the average cost-per-title borrowed. 2021 also produced a banner year of book sales and earnings to the authors and publishers who supply digital books to libraries. Wiley Wiley and Carnegie Mellon University Sign Agreement to Make Research More Widely Accessible. Global research and education leader Wiley today announced a three-year open access agreement with Carnegie Mellon University, a renowned research university in the United States. The agreement will enable Carnegie Mellon's researchers the ability to publish all accepted articles open access in Wiley's journals, meaning that they are freely available to read and share upon publication. This agreement marks a critical step in the university's open access journey, expanding the reach of the research published by its distinguished faculty, most notably including forward-looking fields of study such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and automation. Bloomsbury Bloomsbury acquires ABC-CLIO. Bloomsbury Publishin, the leading independent publisher, announced that it has completed the purchase of ABC-CLIO. The business will operate within Bloomsbury's Academic and Professional division and run as part of Bloomsbury USA. ABC-CLIO's 32 databases, which are split between Higher Education and Schools will enhance the Bloomsbury Digital Resources portfolio, enabling it to significantly scale the digital offering globally. NISO NISO publishes updated Access and License Indicators (ALI) Recommended Practice. The National Information Standards Organization announced publication of its updated Access and License Indicators Recommended Practice (NISO RP-22-2021). Originally published in 2015, this Recommended Practice defines the metadata indicators used to indicate free-to-read content, as well as for linking to license terms for the use/re-use of that content.
