Gale Group Thorndike Press partners with Beanstack and Mark Cuban to sponsor Level Up national K-12 summer 2021 reading challenge. Thorndike Press from Gale, a Cengage company, has teamed up with Beanstack and Mark Cuban to bring schools a national K-12 summer reading challenge, ‘Level Up.' The challenge was designed to lessen the impact of summer slide and keep students engaged and reading all summer long. Schools can win cash prizes, book collections or a virtual visit from Newbery award-winning author, Kimberly Brubaker Bradley. The challenge is free, but schools must register to participate. It will run June 1, 2021 through July 15, 2021. [Full Announcement].

Springer. Springer Nature partners with Research Solutions to bring comprehensive journal and book content to small and medium-sized enterprises. In partnership with the document retrieval provider Reprints Desk, Springer Nature has developed a way for SMEs to access all of Springer Nature’s journal and book content. The partnership with Reprints Desk, a wholly owned subsidiary of Research Solutions Inc., will allow researchers working for SMEs to benefit from influential content that will empower them to drive research and discovery, and stay ahead of competition. Starting from April 2020, the commercial partnership and will initially run for 12 months, after which a detailed analysis will be conducted and companies have the opportunity of purchasing content collections tailored to their needs, [Full Announcement].

Gale Group New study finds large print books improve student reading confidence and comprehension skills. New research released today by Thorndike Press from Gale, a Cengage company, shows that students in grades 3-12 who read large print books developed stronger reading skills, felt more comfortable reading and adopted new, positive reading mindsets. View/download the study whitepaper or infographic.According to the latest results from the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) testing, almost two-thirds of 4th and 8th grade students in U.S. schools are reading at a basic or below basic level. EBSCO Information Services Random House, LLC. eBook titles now available through EBSCO eBooks. EBSCO Information Services is now offering popular fiction and nonfiction e-books published by Random House, LLC. (Random House), the world’s largest general trade book publisher. Reprints Desk and the Boston Library Consortium announced that Reprints Desk’s A-Z Academic Document Delivery Collection for full-text retrieval of scholarly research papers will be made available to BLC’s 17 member academic and research institutions. BLC member institutions will benefit through group purchase pricing incentives when they use Reprints Desk’s external document delivery services and award-winning Article Galaxy software platform to retrieve scholarly journal articles that are not available via subscriptions. Reprints Desk will also work with libraries to analyze actual and projected content acquisition costs to best ensure that inter-library loan and document delivery services are used cost effectively. OCLC Publishers around the world partner with OCLC to improve library workflows for electronic content. OCLC has finalized agreements with international content providers to add more electronic collections to the WorldCat database, the most comprehensive online catalog of resources available through libraries worldwide. Incorporating these databases into WorldCat and the WorldCat knowledge base will improve access to these collections and simplify administration for libraries that use OCLC WorldShare Metadata services. These agreements will also reduce the cost and time spent managing updates to these online collections for libraries that have registered with the knowledge base, and will provide immediate access for libraries that subscribe or want to purchase these collections. The value for libraries is that multiple applications will be able to access the metadata to simplify workflows for managing electronic materials. [Full Announcement].

WT Cox Information Services today announced a new spend management offering, which enables WT Cox customers to more easily manage literature acquisition spending by providing single-source invoicing for document delivery via Reprints Desk. Academic institutions, government organizations, and corporations use document delivery as a legal method for retrieving single copies of full-text papers from scholarly peer-reviewed journals when subscription access does not exist and as a supplemental alternative to interlibrary loan (ILL). VTLS, Inc.. Arab World Institute in Paris chooses VTLS. VTLS announced that the Arab World Institute in Paris has selected Virtua SaaS and Chamo Discovery for the automation of their libraries. The IMA, located in a distinguished building in the heart of Paris, serves as a museum, library and a research institute. The new system will manage the various components of the Institute including the main library, Médiathèque Jeunesse (Youth Media Library) and museum as well as the Picture Library and Audiovisual Collections. The entire system will be implemented at the VTLS hosting facility and managed by VTLS, freeing the library from day-to-day system tasks. Actual implementation commenced on the 1st of January 2013 with completion and go-live set to take place in two stages in June and September. [Full Announcement].

Serials Solutions is working with several eminent German publishers to index their scholarly content in the Summon discovery service. This German-language content is among the most widely subscribed to by academic institutions in Germany, as well as many libraries worldwide, and includes resources covering law, life sciences and the humanities. Fretwell-Downing Informatics. InfoTrieve partners witrh Fretwell-Downing to provide new document delivery service. Infotrieve, the provider of Ariel, the most widely-used Interlibrary Loan document transmission system in the world, and Fretwell-Downing, the provider of the Virtual Document eXchange (VDX) ILL Management System, have announced an agreement that will deliver seamless integration between Ariel and VDX, and will provide their customers with new Interlibrary Loan transmission technology. VTLS, Inc.. National Yiddish Book Center launches Steven Spielberg Digital Yiddish Library. National Yiddish Book Center today launched the Steven Spielberg Digital Yiddish Library on the World Wide Web. With lead gifts from Spielberg, Intel pioneer Max Palevsky and others, the $3.5 million project offers computer users on-demand reprints of more than 12,000 Yiddish titles, most of which have been out of print for fifty years or more. In close co-operation with the National Yiddish Book Center, VTLS Inc. has combined the power of their automated library system with a newly developed e-commerce purchasing system similar to that of Amazon.com.
