Duke University. Mellon grant continues support of open-source library system. Duke University has received a $1.165 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to support the continued development of an open-source integrated library system. Known as Kuali OLE, for Open Library Environment, it is the first system designed by and for academic and research libraries to manage and deliver scholarly information. Three OLE Partners—Lehigh University, the University of Chicago, and SOAS at the University of London—have already implemented Kuali OLE in their library operations. The grant will support the further development, refinement, and adoption of the system by a broader group of public and private institutions. [Full Announcement].

YBP Library Services and University of Chicago work together to improve Kuali OLE acquisition workflow. Libraries using Kuali OLE and GOBI from YBP Library Services will be able to use a new functionality that will streamline the acquisitions process. Kuali Foundation. SOAS Library Implements Kuali Open Library Environment. SOAS Library has adopted the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) as its new library management system. As the UK National Research Library for Asia, Africa and the Middle East, SOAS Library has chosen Kuali OLE to manage its information and resources, including its renowned special collections. Kuali Foundation. The Kuali OLE Team is proud to announce the Release of OLE 1.0. The Kuali Open Library Environment team has released Kuali OLE 1.0, the first community-source integrated library system designed by and for research libraries. In addition to the functionality described below, Kuali OLE 1.0 allows early adopters to map data from legacy library systems to begin implementation, as well as allows libraries to review the system and its installation requirements. Mellon Foundation to develop an open, community-based library software system. This latest award will help complete the system's third year of development, delivering enhanced functionality and flexible support to its primary users. Upcoming releases will provide the functionality required for multisite implementations, such as print and electronic item delivery, self-check automation and high-density storage facilities. Kuali Foundation. HTC Chosen as Kuali Library Development Partner. Kuali Foundation announces the selection of HTC Global Services as the development partner for the Kuali Open Library Environment (OLE) project. The Kuali OLE (pronounced oh-LAY) project is a partnership of nine top research libraries and consortia to develop a community-source library management system. The system will be freely distributed under the Educational Community license and supported in part by a grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. Its design is based on a thoroughly re-examined model of library operations, and its technical design uses a service-oriented architecture (SOA) to better enable connectivity with many other academic and administrative systems. Kuali Foundation. OLE welcomes Project Manager Brad Skiles. Kuali OLE welcomes our newest team member, Brad Skiles. Brad will serve as the OLE Project Manager and he comes on board board July 1, 2010. Brad comes to us from Purdue University and has worked in IT for over 20 years. He has worked with a variety of administrative applications with experience as a director, project manager, and DBA. He has an extensive background in management, data architecture, business intelligence, and data quality and has been active in professional groups such as the International Oracle Users Group Association, the Data Administration Managers Association, and EDUCAUSE. Brad and his family will be relocating to Bloomington, IN over the summer and we are happy to have them in the Kuali family. [Full Announcement].
