The New York Public Library launches new catalog with Vega Discover, the premier discovery tool created by Innovative. Innovative, part of Clarivate, announced that The New York Public Library has launched its new catalog for patrons using Vega Discover, a full-featured discovery tool. The new catalog provides millions of library card users with improved access to the Library's extensive circulating collection. NYPL joins 60 libraries who have launched Vega Discover to the public. Brent Reidy named The New York Public Library's Andrew W. Mellon Director of the Research Libraries. The New York Public Library has named Brent Reidy its Andrew W. Mellon Director of the Research Libraries. Reidy served as the Library's interim director since April of this year, following the retirement of William Kelly, the former Mellon Director. Two New York Public Library special collection reading rooms go live with Aeon. The New York Public Library's Manuscripts, Archives, and Rare Books Division at the Schwarzman Building and Library for Performing Arts are now live with Aeon. Three of the eleven reading rooms at the New York Public Library slated to implement Aeon are now live and in production. [Full Announcement].

New York Public Library Joins Innovative in Developing New Vega Platform. Innovative, a ProQuest company and leading global provider of library software, announced that The New York Public Library has joined the Development Partner Program for Vega, a new patron engagement and discovery solution for public libraries. Capira Technologies. New York Public Library selects Capira Technologies to create a mobile app solution. Capira Technologies, a custom mobile app provider for public and academic libraries worldwide, continues to expand its growing list of library clients with a new partnership with the New York Public Library. The Library system—which represents the Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island in New York City—has signed on to begin the development of a custom mobile library app for NYPL patrons. IMLS award to improve library e-content and e-book borrowing. A new investment of the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) will help libraries provide more e-books and make them more accessible to the public. With the IMLS award of $1,372,154, The New York Public Library, in close collaboration with the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) and 19 partner libraries and library consortia from across the country, will further a project called Library E-content Access Project (LEAP). LEAP will expand and provide outreach for the Library Simplified e-content reader app and unify and improve the e-book borrowing and reading experience for library patrons across the country. New York Public Library and San Francisco Public Library now live on the Sierra Library Services Platform. New York Public Library and San Francisco Public Library are now live on the Sierra Library Services Platform, each upgrading from the Millennium ILS. New York Public Library and Bibliocommons partner to create a new innovative, interactive online experience. The New York Public Library has partnered with Toronto-based software company Bibliocommons to completely transform its current online catalog, making it easier to discover the Library’s vast collections while also giving users the power to create reading lists, rate the latest books, and organize groups. Three Renowned Research Libraries Join Forces To Better Serve Users. The New York Public Library and the libraries of Columbia University and New York University—three renowned research institutions all on the island of Manhattan—have launched an initiative to expand collections and better serve their users. Kirtas Technologies. New York Public Library and Kirtas Technologies Partner to Make 500,000 Public-Domain Books Available to the World. Readers and researchers looking for hard-to-find books now have the opportunity to dip into the collections of one of the world’s most comprehensive libraries to purchase digitized copies of public domain titles. Through their Digitize-on-Demand program, Kirtas Technologies has partnered with The New York Public Library to make 500,000 public domain works from the Library’s collections available to anyone in the world. Credo Reference. New York Library Systems Choose Credo Reference to Provide Online Reference for their Patrons. Credo Reference announced its new agreement with four New York library systems to provide residents with online reference resources through their local libraries. The new agreement provides the patrons of the New York Public Library, Brooklyn Public Library, Nassau Library System and the Suffolk Cooperative Library System with access to Credo’s growing general reference collection of 270+ titles from 60 publishers. In total, Credo Reference will now be accessible to 20.3 million residents throughout the New York area. [Full Announcement].

The New York Public Library selects Encore and Millennium suite of products. New York Public Library has selected a complete suite of library automation technologies from Innovative Interfaces to improve services to users and streamline staff operations. As the Library moves forward in uniting its previously separate branch and research divisions and their online catalogs (LEO and CATNYP, respectively), Innovative will help bring these extensive information repositories together in a new, single Millennium integrated library system. NYPL will also deploy Encore, Innovative's next-generation discovery services platform, to provide a modern, state-of-the-art user experience. [Full Announcement].

Webfeat. WebFeat system for cross–database searching launched at The New York Public Library. The New York Public Library is launching a custom-designed federated search solution powered by WebFeat. The WebFeat system enables NYPL patrons to simultaneously search nearly 400 licensed electronic resources, the NYPL website, and LEO and CATNYP—the two New York Public Library online catalogs. WebFeat also enables federated searching of the NYPL Digital Gallery—a repository of over 550,000 images from the Library's research collections and The New York Public Library's Picture Collection Online—a collection of 30,000 digitized public domain images from books, magazines and newspapers as well as original photographs, prints and postcards, most created prior to 1923. Polaris Library Systems. Polaris Library Systems Reports Strong Third Quarter. Polaris Library Systems announced that fourteen new customers have signed contracts to implement the Polaris Integrated Library System. [Full Announcement].

NYPL Partners with Google to Make Books Available Online. NYPL is partnering with Google in a pilot program that will make a subset of its books available in full text on the web. NYPL is working with Google to offer a collection of its public domain books, which will be scanned in their entirety and made available for free to the public online. Users will be able to search and browse the full text of these works. When the scanning process is complete, the books may be accessed from both The NYPL website and from Google. VTLS, Inc.. VTLS' uses the newest digital imaging technology to complete the New York Public Library Manhattan Facades project. VTLS Inc. digital imaging group has completed an important scanning project for The New York Public Library. The Manhattan Facades Project involved digitizing contemporary conceptual artwork consisting of over 25,000 snapshot photographs depicting the buildings of Manhattan, part of a large Digital Library initiative the NYPL is launching free to the public this fall. MuseGlobal, Inc.. The Branch Libraries of the New York Public Library implement Muse from MuseGlobal Inc.. MuseGlobal, Inc. announced today that The New York Public Library is implementing its flagship Muse products, MuseSearch and MuseBridge, throughout the 83-branch library system. [Full Announcement].

NYPL links all 82 branches to library catalogs, the Internet, and an astonishing array of data. The New York Public Library inaugurated LEO (Library Entrance Online), the world's largest public library information system and network. LEO, named with reference to the famed marble lions which have long symbolized NYPL, is a new technologically advanced, fully integrated online system that links users in every branch to the Library's catalogs, to a vast collection of databases, and even to the World Wide Web on the Internet. The value of the project was $9 million and is based on Dynix from Ameritech Library Services. [Full Announcement].

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation awards the New York Public Library $1 million for major catalog conversions. The New York Public Library announced a generous grant of $1 million from The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to launch a major effort to improve and expand public access to the collections of The Research Libraries through electronic information technologies. Funds from this grant will enable the Library not only to expand the services and information available in its research and branch libraries, but also to provide worldwide electronic access to its bibliographic catalogs through online networks.
