University of California -- Los Angeles. UCLA Library acquires papers of natural foods pioneer and educator Sandy Gooch. UCLA Library has acquired the papers of Sandy Gooch, an entrepreneur whose vision transformed the way many Americans prepare, eat and shop for food and health care products. The Sandy Gooch Papers, to be housed in UCLA Library Special Collections, document the founding and growth of Mrs. Gooch's Natural Food Markets, as well as the founder's life's work. The gift from Gooch and her husband, Harry Lederman, includes business records, product information, advertising, decor materials, photographs and videos that record the importance of the natural foods chain. University of California -- Los Angeles. Athena Jackson named UCLA university librarian. Athena N. Jackson has been named UCLA's Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian. Her appointment will begin March 1.Jackson, the former director of special collections at UCLA Library, has served since 2021 as dean of libraries at the University of Houston, where she holds the Elizabeth D. Rockwell Chair. Over her career, Jackson has led major efforts to increase and promote access to library resources through modern channels, support inclusive practices, and provide transformative learning opportunities for those in academic communities. University of California -- Los Angeles. Carlo Medina to lead UC-wide Southern Regional Library Facility, UCLA Library Unified Access Services. Carlo Medina, who began his career in the campus library system nearly 30 years ago, has been named director of the University of California Southern Regional Library Facility (SRLF) and UCLA Library Unified Access Services, effective July 1. The appointment was made by Ginny Steel, the Norman and Armena Powell University Librarian. [Full Announcement].

University of California -- Los Angeles. Online Computer Library Center Non-Roman Script Project. For library cataloging, when technology evolved it didn't work for a set of record users. The OCLC non-roman script helps database researchers of languages that do not use the Roman alphabet to work with the languages themselves in native scripts, rather than through the similar-sounding roman alphabet equivalents in English. Until recently, being able to go back and augment the old non-roman records with original, non-roman script was considered a luxury. Making foreign language records more accessible is an EDI solution and therefore critical. This project provides a vital service in discovery tools. [Full Announcement].

The UCLA Library has officially accepted its new online information system from Endeavor Information Systems. Voyager, Endeavor’s integrated information management system, features a Web-based public access catalog, cataloging functions, acquisitions and serials management, circulation services, and course reserves.
