GPO launches public access to 1.2 million historic government records dating back to 1895. The U.S. Government Publishing Office launched public access to more than 1.2 million newly available records of historic U.S. Government publications, making it easier than ever to find documents published between 1895 and 1976. The records are now live in the Catalog of U.S. Government Publications and are available to the public at no cost. This launch improves search and discovery and opens the door to decades of Government publications that were previously difficult to locate online. [Full Announcement].

GPO doubles congressionally mandated reports on GovInfo. U.S. Government Publishing Office now makes more than 1,000 Congressionally Mandated Reports from 90 Federal agencies available on GovInfo, the one-stop site for authentic, published information for all three branches of the Federal Government. This total has doubled since GPO announced reaching 500 Congressionally Mandated Reports in October 2024 and has continued to grow since GPO first made Congressionally Mandated Reports available online in December 2023. GPO director presents FY2027 appropriations request to Congress. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern presented GPO's FY 2027 appropriations request before the U.S. House and U.S. Senate Subcommittees on Legislative Branch Appropriations this spring. Director Halpern requested appropriations in the amount of $132,000,000, an amount equal to GPO's FY 2026 appropriation. GPO operates as a business, and directly appropriated funds represent only about nine percent of GPO's revenue. The remainder of GPO's revenue comes from GPO's billings to its other Federal customers, such as the State Department, the courts, the White House, and many others. [Full Announcement].

GPO director appoints leaders to Depository Library Council. U.S. Government Publishing Office Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern, on the Agency's 165th birthday, has appointed six new members to the Depository Library Council. The DLC has advised the GPO Director on policy matters relating to the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) and access to U.S. Government information for more than 50 years. In addition to experience working in various types of libraries, the new DLC members have experience with and knowledge of current developments in library science and U.S. Government information. These new members will help position the DLC and the FDLP to advance GPO's vision of an America Informed. [Full Announcement].

GPO and the Library of Congress digitize 10,000 volumes of the United States serial set. U.S. Government Publishing Office achieved a major milestone by uploading and making available its 10,000th volume of the United States Congressional Serial Set on GPO's GovInfo. Those volumes contain more than 185,000 individual Government documents and reports. This is part of a multi-year effort with the Law Library of Congress to digitize and make accessible the United States Congressional Serial Set back to the first volume, which was published in 1817. Americans have accessed Government Information through GPO more than 15 billion times. he U.S. Government Publishing Office has surpassed 15 billion retrievals of Government information since the Agency began publishing content online. In FY 2025 alone, GPO recorded 1.97 billion retrievals of Government information from GovInfo, the one-stop source for authentic, published information from all three branches of the Federal Government. This represents a 16 percent increase compared to FY 2024. [Full Announcement].

Colorado library named best in the nation. The U.S. Government Publishing Office has named Arthur Lakes Library at the Colorado School of Mines as the 2025 Federal Depository Library of the Year. The Golden, CO library was selected for its significant role in increasing access to and preserving Government information, including making publications from the United States Geological Survey (USGS) easily accessible to the public in digital formats. GPO names University of North Texas with best federal depository website. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) honors University of North Texas (UNT) Libraries for having the best website in the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) for 2025. This is the third library to ever receive the award, which was created to recognize the creativity and the ways libraries are providing easy access to Federal Government information on their websites. The library has digitized many Federal Government documents and archived web pages that might otherwise have been lost and made them accessible to the public on its sleek and easy-to-navigate website. GPO Director names Managing Director of Library Services and Content Management. U.S. Government Publishing Office Director Hugh Nathanial Halpern named Julie Balutis the Agency's Managing Director of Library Services and Content Management department. In this role, Balutis will oversee the administration of four major Congressionally-mandated programs: the Federal Depository Library Program, the Cataloging & Indexing Program, the International Exchange Service, and the By-Law Program. She will provide management support for the implementation of strategic programs and operations in partnership with depository libraries and in collaboration with other GPO business units and Federal agencies. GPO makes available Supreme Court cases dating back to the 18th century. The U.S. Government Publishing Office (GPO) has made available hundreds of historic volumes of U.S. Supreme Court cases dating from 1790–1991. These cases are published officially in the United States Reports and are now available on GPO's GovInfo, the one-stop site for authentic, published information for all three branches of the Federal Government. Libraries in the south partner with GPO to preserve government information. Four libraries in the South have entered into agreements with GPO to become Preservation Stewards, and one library has expanded its collection. To help libraries meet the needs of efficient Government document stewardship in the digital era, GPO has established Preservation Stewards to support continued public access to U.S. Government documents in print format. These libraries contribute significantly to the effort to preserve printed documents. Through the agreement, many libraries also serve as digital access partners, providing digital access to Government information. Two libraries in Alaska — the Alaska State Court Law Library and the Alaska State Library — have entered into agreements with GPO to become Preservation Stewards. Jerome Hall Library, Indiana State Library, and State Library of Ohio have expanded upon their Preservation Steward collections with the U.S. Government Publishing Office, and Allen County Public Library signed a Memorandum of Agreement with GPO to become a Preservation Steward. To help libraries meet the needs of efficient Government document stewardship in the digital era, GPO has established Preservation Stewards to support continued public access to U.S. Government documents in print format. Yale University's Lillian Goldman Law Library signed a Memorandum of Agreement with the U.S. Government Publishing Office to become a Preservation Steward. These libraries contribute significantly to the effort to preserve printed documents. Government Publishing Office lands spot on Forbes America's best employer list for fourth year in a row. The US Government Publishing Office has been named one of the best employers in America by Forbes for the fourth year in a row. GPO ranked in the top 20 amongst mid-sized agencies in Government Services. GPO joined the Library of Congress and Federal Communications Commission in the category for best Government agencies. GPO joins Digital Preservation Coalition. The U.S. Government Publishing Office has joined the Digital Preservation Coalition, an international charitable foundation that supports digital preservation. GPO is joining a growing DPC community with 170 members in 24 countries worldwide. The DPC helps its members deliver resilient long-term access to digital content, such as that on GPO's GovInfo, the one-stop site for authentic, published information for all three branches of the Federal Government. Maryland library named Library of the Year. The U.S. Government Publishing Office names Harford Community College Library as the 2024 Federal Depository Library of the Year. The Bel Air, MD library was selected for its excellent promotion of the Federal Depository Library Program and FDLP digital and physical resources.
