Amigos Library Services partners with TSLAC to Provide SimplyE to smaller public libraries. Amigos Library Services announced a partnership with the Texas State Library and Archives Commission on the E-Read Texas program to bring electronic book (e-book) access to Texans served by small community libraries. Amigos Library Services Receives TSLAC/IMLS Grant Extending SimplyE Functionality. Amigos Library Services recently received a grant Texas State Library and Archives Commission and Institute of Museum and Library Services. Funding from this grant allows Amigos to extend the functionality of the SimplyE app. Amigos Library Services will extend the functionality of the mobile app to computers and laptops by creating a web-based service that includes functionality and an interface like the one used by the SimplyE app, making it more accessible to those that do not use mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets or those that prefer to use their library's public computers. In addition, these changes will aid academic library patrons as that functionality comes to fruition. [Full Announcement].

Amigos receives TSLAC grant to fund e-book project. Amigos Library Services received a Library Cooperation Grant from the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. The grant will help fund a project to develop a new e-book distribution platform. The planned service will provide e-books for library patrons, searchable through an Amigos search interface or a local library catalog. Amigos will create the platform and negotiate directly with publishers to obtain content. The grant funds will be provided from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services to TSLAC under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act and will aid in underwriting the project’s costs. Prior to receipt of the TSLAC grant, Amigos had begun an e-book distribution platform project using resources provided by North Texas Library Partners. [Full Announcement].
