(Gale Group) The American Antiquarian Society has partnered with Gale, a Cengage company, to make the world’s largest collection of Americana from the Colonial period through the 20th century more accessible to researchers. As part of the partnership, Gale has released American Historical Periodicals from the American Antiquarian Society, Series 6, a newly digitized series of nearly 200 titles that provides researchers with a history of the American people, offering multiple perspectives on the thought, culture, and society of North America through the eyes of those who lived and experienced it. Gale’s Digital Scholar Lab, a cloud-based research environment launched by the company today, allows students and researchers to apply natural language processing tools to raw text data (OCR) from Gale Primary Sources archives in a single research platform. This new research environment removes key barriers to entry into digital scholarship, enabling users at any level to perform textual analysis on large corpora of historical texts, streamlining the workflow process to help generate new research insights.

Through a new partnership with Google Scholar, Gale has integrated Google’s Campus Activated Subscriber Access into its Academic OneFile periodical database, ensuring users seamlessly experience uninterrupted access to its authoritative content, from any off-campus location or device. CASA is an enhanced authentication service that builds upon Google Scholar's Subscriber Links service. Without CASA, Subscriber Links in Google Scholar search results are based on IP authentication. This is great for on-campus research, but falls short for remote access, becoming a frustrating experience for users. With CASA integration, remote researchers have the same Subscriber Links and unrestricted access to Gale content as on-campus researchers, from anywhere in the world.
