(Overdrive) A study released by Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for libraries worldwide, reveals that technology has helped Americans find more opportunities to consume books. The shift towards digital content has allowed readers to continue to enjoy books anytime, anywhere on any device – even despite constant demands for attention from the outside world. The study found that over the past year, 43 percent of respondents have read ebooks and 34 percent of respondents have listened to audiobooks – and 87 percent of those respondents are consuming audiobooks while doing other activities.

(Overdrive) Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform worldwide, is partnering with the German digital distribution service provider Libreka to bring its ebook and digital audiobook catalog to public libraries in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Libreka is one of the largest distributors in Germany representing over 40,000 publishers and more than 1,000 domestic and international trading partners.

(Overdrive) Rakuten OverDrive announced today that 65 public library systems exceeded 1 million or more digital book loans in 2018, the most ever to reach this milestone. This illustrates how libraries have transformed using digital lending of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines. The total number of libraries represents a significant increase from the 58 systems that surpassed 1 million checkouts in 2017. These libraries are based in the US, Canada, Singapore and New Zealand.

(Overdrive) Rakuten OverDrive, the leading digital reading platform for over 43,000 libraries and schools worldwide, reported that 2018 public library spending and usage of ebooks, audiobooks and magazines reached record levels. Libraries served over 274 million digital books to card holders in the past 12 months, a 22% increase over the previous year, which is the highest growth rate since 2015.

(Overdrive) Rakuten and Kobe City, Hyogo Prefecture, have concluded an agreement related to Rakuten OverDrive, a digital library service offered by the Rakuten Group. Based on the agreement, Kobe City will adopt the Rakuten OverDrive digital library service for the first time on a trial basis.The adoption of the digital library service will allow residents of Kobe City to use the service at every municipal library in Kobe City.
