(Hampshire College) Student usage of academic services nearly doubled after Hampshire College centralized the services into Harold F. Johnson Library, in a large, newly renovated space starting this past September 2017. The concept behind the new Knowledge Commons was funded by a $1.2 million Andrew W. Mellon Foundation grant awarded to the library in December 2015.

(Gale Group) he Corporate Committee for Library Investment (CCLI), an organization of more than 90 U.S. corporations united to support federal library funding, believes that the proposed cuts to the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) and the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) damage critical economic and educational infrastructure. We urge Congress to restore full federal funding for America’s libraries in the FY2019 budget.

(Follett) With its latest release of Destiny, Follett continues to make impactful advances to its market-leading library/resource management solution. Destiny 15.5 provides enhancements to help students and teachers more easily find the best resources to meet learning goals and objectives, and includes updates to the entire Destiny family of products – Destiny Library Manager, Destiny Discover, Collections by Destiny, Destiny Resource Manager and Destiny Analytics.

(ProQuest) ProQuest has launched a new initiative for the long-term archival storage of its digital content, creating a “dark archive” that protects the investments of its library customers. The ProQuest SAFE (Secure Archives ForEver) service will ensure preservation and access to content purchased by customers. The SAFE service will launch using Amazon Glacier, the long-term backup and data-archiving resource from Amazon Web Services, chosen for its ability to ingest and protect ProQuest’s 600 terabytes of data. ProQuest will complete the first phase of the SAFE implementation by populating the dark archive with ebook content in 2018 and will support ongoing deposits.

(EBSCO Information Services) As part of our commitment to ”Going Green,” we want to encourage libraries to reevaluate their own environmental footprints. In 2016, we introduced the EBSCO Solar Grant and to date we have given nearly half a million dollars to libraries looking to install solar arrays on their campuses. This year, EBSCO Solar will fund three $100,000 grants.

(Royal Danish Library) In September 2017 38 Europeans from 16 European countries (and 3 presenters from US) gathered for the first European BIBFRAME Workshop at the German National Library, Frankfurt. The workshop discussed the barriers for implementation of BIBFRAME in breakout sessions. The lack of interest and implementations from the vendors of ILS were seen as a key issue. As a follow-up of the 2017 workshop, the organizer group of the 2018 workshop has developed BIBFRAME Expectations for ILS tenders.

(Ex Libris) Ex Libris announced that Florida’s Miami Dade College has chosen the Ex Libris campusM mobile solution to help consolidate information from the college’s learning management system, student information system (SIS), and other campus services and display that information on students’ mobile devices.

(Open Library Foundation) FOLIO begins 2018 reaching a variety of notable development milestones. The open source project is dedicated to providing libraries of all sizes with choice when selecting a library services platform (LSP) or building library services beyond traditional functionality to expand their reach with their institution. Development milestones and the expansion of the FOLIO Community point to the project reaching a critical mass in 2018.
