Yewno, Inc., announced today that Deakin University, in Victoria, Australia has selected the Yewno Discover research application to support the interdisciplinary and explorative search needs of its faculty and students. University libraries that have adopted Yewno now span seven countries, including the US, UK, Switzerland, Germany, Canada, Italy and now, Australia.
With over 50,000 students and nearly 2000 academic staff, Deakin has four faculties and thirteen strategic research centers spread across four physical campuses. Deakin is also a lead provider of innovative online education through its Cloud Campus.
"Deakin prides itself on being Australia's premier university in driving the digital frontier, and is constantly looking for new ways to improve both student experience and research outcomes. Our commitment to technological innovation can be found in both our physical and digital spaces" said Hero Macdonald, Director, Digital Libraries and Repositories. Hero notes that, "from the Library's perspective, we are constantly looking to improve the discovery experience for students and researchers, and we are excited about adding Yewno Discover to our current platform. Yewno has the potential to fundamentally change the research process as we know it, helping students and researchers to explore the connections between concepts in new ways, ultimately driving the creation of new knowledge."
Yewno Discover goes far beyond traditional search methodology. It uses a knowledge graph to track more than 600 million semantic connections among concepts extracted from fulltext academic resources. It then links to over 120 million scholarly articles, books and database assets, a number that is continuously growing. Discover can also help libraries to manage their own assets by linking with existing search tools and platforms.
"We are delighted to see the adoption of Yewno Discover by Deakin, a University known worldwide for its technological sophistication and research acumen" said Yewno's CoFounder and Chief BD Officer, Ruth Pickering. "At Yewno, our vision is Knowledge Singularity – the day when knowledge is at everyone's fingertips. With each new adoption of our Discovery platform, we are a step closer to reaching that goal on a global scale."
Founded in 2014, Yewno is helping the world to uncover the undiscovered through its new inference engine, which introduces an entirely new approach to knowledge discovery. Mimicking the human brain, the Yewno inference engine incorporates machine learning, cognitive science, neural networks, and computational linguistics into an intelligent framework to enhance human understanding by correlating concepts across vast volumes sources. Headquartered in Redwood City, CA, and with offices in London and New York, Yewno is backed by leading investors including Pacific Capital and currently has numerous partnerships across top research universities, publishers, the finance sector and content aggregators worldwide.
