Nationwide Public Library System in Ireland with over 300 locations now live on a single Innovative system

Dublin, IrelandóInnovative Interfaces, a leading provider of library automation software that empowers libraries globally, is pleased to announce that the final implementation phase of the Republic of Ireland's public library authorities is now live on Sierra. This project completion ensures single access for all library members to over 15 million items in 333 libraries.

"The introduction of the service by public libraries across the country is an exciting and groundbreaking initiative, the first of its kind in the world," said Damien English, Minister of Housing and Urban Renewal, during a national launch of the service in May. "Every library in Ireland is effectively now your local library."

The single library system delivers on the 2013-2017 strategic Opportunities for All program by reducing costs, driving efficiency and improving services to the citizens of Ireland. Sharing the Sierra Integrated Library System will now provide a more uniform set of cataloging standards, improve opportunities of resource sharing, and enhance workflow efficiencies for staff.

"Now that the implementation is complete, Sierra has allowed us to achieve efficiency of scale and realize the full benefits of one comprehensive system," said Annette Kelly, Head of Libraries Development, Local Government Management Agency. "We deliver efficiencies, enhance resource sharing, and create tremendous reach and impact for the public. Our patrons are very excited about having access to resources nationwide, right from their local library branch."

Consolidating from separate library automation systems to a single system for an entire country was an ambitious task. Four Dublin County library authorities previously used Axiell Galaxy. Sirsi Dynix was the automation provider for 20 libraries outside Dublin. Innovative began the initial transition to Sierra in 2015. With a dedicated implementation team, Account Manager, and step-by-step plan, Innovative completed the project this April.

An entirely free service, Ireland offers a single library membership card for the entire country of Ireland, serving a population of about 4.6 million. Members can borrow books, DVDs and games, a wide range of online resources, and use Wi-Fi, computers, and printing services at any branch. They can reserve up to 12 items at a time, either from an in-person visit or through an online request. Selected titles are delivered to local branches within the week.

"We commend Ireland for leading the way with this formative change in the library technology landscape," said Innovative CEO Jim Tallman. "Innovative is extremely proud to be a partner in this trailblazing effort to establish a collaborative and sustainable national library community."
