ST. PAUL, Minn. – November 1, 2011 – Dundee Public Library and Skokie Public Library, both located in Illinois, have chosen 3M RFID Systems to enhance productivity in their libraries.
Dundee Public Library has nearly 250,000 visits to the library each year. With an annual circulation of 288,444 items, the Dundee Library chose 3M SelfCheck Systems with a self-pay component for patrons to both check out their own materials and to pay late fees and fines right at the check-out unit. The library also will install a five-bin sorting system to help reduce the burden on staff time, gain efficiencies and provide better service to their library users.
Skokie Public Library has more than 40,000 borrowers and with a circulation of more than 2.2 million items annually, it was critical that they switch from their microchip technology to 3M RFID. Their new equipment consists of 3M RFID-enabled self-service kiosks, an 11-bin automated material handling system, a detection system and a digital library assistant. Skokie's goal is to increase patron efficiency from the current 15 % self-service check out rate to 80%. The staff will also be able to save their time with the 11-bin check-in system to sort their materials during the patron check-in process.
The Skokie Public Library aims to promote lifelong learning, discovery and enrichment through a broad spectrum of materials, technologies and experiences. Serving a diverse population, the library facilitates access to information, the exchange of ideas and the building of community.
