HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – January 16, 2009 – Bibliotheca Inc., open RFID solutions partner of choice to 350+ libraries worldwide, today announced that St. Louis County (Missouri) Public Library has successfully completed the first phase of the library’s implementation of the BiblioChip RFID System. Begun in March 2008, the project involved installation of Bibliotheca RFID solutions — including self-check kiosks, security gates, staff stations and other staff tools — at five of the library’s 20 branches. The library system currently has 3 million items and an annual circulation of 9 million.
As a result, St. Louis County Public Library has been able to effectively support growing usage and circulation at these five libraries, despite static and, in some cases, reduced numbers of library staff. The library has already begun the second phase of its RFID project.
According to Charles Pace, St. Louis county librarian, "When we made the decision about a year ago to invest in RFID, we did so because we had concluded that providing self-service options was our best option for handling growing usage and circulation. First-phase results of our Bibliotheca RFID implementation have more than validated our decision. We look forward to seeing even greater return on our investment in the second phase of our RFID project.

- 25 BiblioChip Staff Stations with dual functionality to perform both the conversion and staff checkout/check-in duties
- 8 BiblioChip self-check stations in both the kiosk and countertop models, offering pleasing visual appearance, intuitive user graphic interface, stack processing, an internal barcode scanner and receipt printer
- 2 BiblioChip inventory wands to assist in inventory cleanup as well as the retrieval of misplaced and reserved items
