Virtual Music Library migrates to Index Data's Keystone Digital Library Suite

August 17, 2004 - Copenhagen, London and Middletown, CT - Index Data signed a contract this month with the principals of Denmark's Electronic Research Library Consortium and a group of additional participating Danish state and university libraries to migrate the DVM (Det Virtuelle Musikbibliotek, The Virtual Music Library) to the Keystone Digital Library Suite of software services.

The DVM is a web portal and single search interface to all the music resources located in Denmark's pubic institutions. Five years after creating the DVM portal using local programming resources (located at www.def-musikportal.dk), the DVM principals concluded that the only way to upgrade the service to meet the demanding requirements of music researchers system maintenance personnel was to re-fashion the portal using Index Data's Keystone Digital Library Suite. Among reasons why the DVM switched to Keystone are:

  • Simple installation and maintenance
  • Efficient content editor workflow
  • Automatic Web harvesting
  • Automatic inclusion of external search targets
  • Automatic inclusion of XML-based streamed input data
  • Higher degree of dynamic data display

The DVM is one of a growing number of subject-specific web portals that the Keystone DLS has provided Denmark's library users. Other subjects for which Keystone provides portal and search services include Arts and Architecture, Food and Nutrition, Energy Technology and Transportation. Index Data releases all Keystone portal and metasearch installations under an Open Source license so that the entire library community can benefit from the software.

“One of the strengths of our approach to portal and metasearch services is that we provide customized solutions to meet the specific needs of each installation,” said Sebastian Hammer, Index Data's CEO. “This approach, coupled with our Open Source distribution, our commitment to standards, and our advance programming techniques, are what we believe enable the Keystone family of digital library services to provide libraries with superior value.”
