SYRACUSE, New York, May 20, 2003 – Gaylord Information Systems, a leader in library automation with its Polaris and GALAXY integrated library systems, announced today that the name of the company has been changed to GIS Information Systems, Inc. This change follows on the announcement that DEMCO, Inc. has acquired the Gaylord library supplies and furniture division of Gaylord Bros., Inc. from the Croydon Company. Croydon, which has owned Gaylord Bros. for more than thirty years, will continue to own GIS Information Systems, Inc.
For more than twenty-five years GIS has developed innovative automation solutions for libraries, introducing its first circulation system in the mid-1970's. The GALAXY® system was introduced in the 1980's and was an immediate success with libraries looking for an easy-to-use turnkey solution to library automation. The GALAXY product line has been enhanced over the last several years to incorporate a graphical interface for OPAC and circulation, Z39.50 client and server capabilities, and a Web interface that allows libraries to make their catalogs accessible via the Internet.
