Other Info: The Institute of Advanced Legal Studies was founded in 1947. It was conceived and is funded as a national academic institution, attached to the University of London, serving all universities through its national legal research library. Its function is to promote, facilitate and disseminate the results of advanced study and research in the discipline of law, for the benefit of persons and institutions in the UK and abroad. IALS is one of the major components of the University''s School of Advanced Study, occupying eight floors of purpose-built accommodation in Russell Square. The library is a highly valued national and international resource for legal research and has over 311,000 volumes mostly housed at the Institute site on Russell Square in Bloomsbury. It employs a dedicated and dynamic staff of 26 who work with a national and international clientele of researchers and participate in a broad variety of professional and development activities. A full range of library resources, from archives and early legal publications to an expanding network of electronic resources is made available by the library. IALS Library is one of the libraries forming the School of Advanced Study Libraries in the University of London.
