The David Wilson Library on the central campus houses over 1 million volumes with a digital collection of nearly 1 million items including over 60,000 journals and 500,000 ebooks; Specialist services include Special Collections and Archives with its digital content hosted on MyLeicestershire History; the Leicester Research Archive open access digital research collection on Dspace, and Research Data on Figshare and is taking part in the Portico digital preservation project.
After 3 years of construction the David Wilson Library opened in April 2008. HM The Queen officially opened the David Wilson Library on 4 December 2008. The new library facilities include:
- 1800 user spaces of all types
- 350 PCs and 16 Group study rooms
- Digital Learning Reading Room
- Special Collections Suite for rare books and manuscripts to BS5454 standard
- Doctoral College Reading Room
- RFID self issue and return
- Help zone – combined Library and IT enquiries and assistance
- Additional student facilities : Careers Service, Student Learning Centre, AccessAbility Zone, 500 seat lecture theatre with associated seminar rooms.
