The Esprit Soutron Partnership is currently developing v2.0 of it's class leading 2020 Library Management System and will demonstrate a beta version at the Library Information Show 2002.
2020 Library Management System is based on the of the world's most popular ‘special library' database software, Inmagic's DB/TextWorks®, and has always offered high levels of integration for librarians, allowing easy management of physical and electronic materials across networks and Intranets.
In order to take 2020 forward and to benefit from enhanced scripting capabilities now available in DB/TextWorks® version 6.0, ESP organised a Steering Group consisting of 6 2020 users and 3 project managers from ESP. The aim of the group was to bring focus to the direction of 2020 by providing client feedback through a ‘wish-list' which fed into ESP's development programme.
This has resulted in more integrated functionality, improved navigation and better automation allowing background tasks to aid in loaning, reservations and cataloguing. There is also a new ‘slick' look and feel which is fully customisable to help people to ‘pick up and go' as much as possible
One of the major new features in 2020 LMS is the ability to create a ‘Loan Holiday' diary. This will put an end to loaned items being due back on a public holiday or when the library is closed.
Administrator functions have also been greatly improved allowing 2020 administrators access to various ‘high level' areas of the system such as a message board, customisable system help and archived library activity.
