BookWhere Z39.50 technology

Press Release: Eloquent Systems, Inc. [April 2, 2002]

(April 2, 2002) Merv Richter, President of Eloquent Systems Inc, is pleased to announce an agreement with Sea Change Corporation to integrate their BookWhere Z39.50 technology. Eloquent customers can now use the Internet to search hundreds of libraries around the world for MARC records and, with a simple keystroke, load these records into their Eloquent database. They become instantly available for public access by library patrons anywhere on the Internet/intranet.

Sources for these free bibliographic records include the Library of Congress and British Library as well as public, academic and state libraries all over the world. BookWhere software is designed specifically for librarians, professional researchers, information specialists and students. The interface is very powerful, yet very easy to use. Also available is the MARC Notepad that allows librarians to quickly attach local holdings information to records before exporting them to their local systems.

BookWhere has always supported a wide range of record formats, which included numerous international MARC formats. The latest Version 4 release adds native support for XML and HTML in the full record display. This development makes the product fully compliant with the internationally registered Bath Profile. Researchers gain immediate access to databases supporting these formats as they become available.

Eloquent is a reseller for BookWhere and related products. This gives customers the convenience of a single source for their library automation software and the benefit of special package pricing. The integrated products are ready for delivery. Librarians have the following options:

Enjoy a free hands-on experience for 45 days (or 45 hours online) capturing bibliographic records from the hundreds of sources and loading then into the Eloquent WebLibrary database. Or, as an initial step in library automation with a nominal consulting fee, load the records into a private database.

Go live with the software for a four-month trial period, paying only the cost of hosting the software and database. After the three months have the option to purchase the software or continue using Eloquent as an Application Service Provider (ASP). In either event you keep the copy of BookWhere

Enjoy the 35% introductory discount for a combined package of BookWhere and Eloquent WebLibrary software. It can be easily downloaded and installed locally.
