Canadian Universities use Endeavor's Solution

Press Release: Endeavor Information Systems, Inc. [August 2, 2002]

Des Plaines, IL, August 2, 2002: Endeavor Information Systems announced today that version 5 of ScienceServer is now available for full use at the University of Toronto (UT) and will be operating on a new server funded by the OCUL/OII (Ontario Information Infrastructure) Scholarly Information Resources project. With this release, articles are available not only in the existing PDF format but also in the new HTML/XML format. This format introduces a number of features that will enhance the use of the journals, including the ability to link from citations to other articles.

The new web address of scholarsportal.info is introduced with this upgrade to give the ScienceServer system a less "UT-centric" address and is the new identity for the service. The following universities currently have access:

  • University of British Columbia
  • Brock University
  • University of New Brunswick
  • Ryerson University
  • University Health Network
  • University of Toronto
  • Trent University
  • University of Waterloo
  • University of Windsor
  • York University

Twelve additional universities will soon join:

  • Carleton University
  • University of Guelph

  • Laurentian University
  • Nipissing University
  • Ontario College of Art & Design
  • University of Ottawa

  • McMaster University

The new version of ScienceServer has over 2,000,000 articles from the full text journals published by Elsevier Science (including Academic Press), Kluwer (Kluwer Academic Publishers, Kluwer Law International and Kluwer/Plenum), and Springer-Verlag. The University of Toronto is a member of the Strategic Partnership Program (SPP). SPP is a collaborative effort between Elsevier Science and major innovators and thought leaders in the field of digital scientific information.

ScienceServer is transitioning from Elsevier Science to Endeavor Information Systems in 2002. As a future development for 2003, Endeavor's ENCompass system will be introduced as a new front-end for ScienceServer. Access to citations, articles, and footnotes will be through LinkFinderPlus in ENCompass. In the future all of the ScienceServer functionality will be incorporated into ENCompass.
