Ex Libris is pleased to announce the recent signing of a contract providing for the licensing and implementation of its ALEPH 500™ library management system at the libraries of Intercollege, the largest private college in Cyprus.
Founded in 1980, Intercollege consists of three campuses--Nicosia, Limassol, and Larnaca--which award American and British degrees. Although the school began as a certificate-granting institution, today it grants bachelor`s degrees in some 51 programs and master`s degrees in selected subject areas. From a mere six students enrolled at the school`s creation, the student body of Intercollege has grown to approximately 4,000 on the three campuses. A full-time staff of 139 is complemented by 135 part-time lecturers. The upgrade of Intercollege to an independent Cypriot university, chaired by Professor V. Coufoudakis, is now under way.
The ALEPH system at Intercollege is scheduled to go live in the spring of 2003, by which time at least 60,000 bibliographic records will have been transferred to the new system.
Ms. Koula Peristiani, director of the Intercollege libraries, noted, "After a year of research and evaluation, our libraries have chosen the ALEPH system as the one which can best handle all aspects of information management and administration and has good prospects for long-term usefulness. With ALEPH, our library will be better able to serve the needs of an academic community in the twenty-first century."
