Athena: A Windows-based Integrated Library System from Nichols Advanced Technologies

Library Software Review [Spring 1995]

by

Abstract: Athena is the latest product from Nichols Advanced Technologies. Nichols established itself in the school library automation marketplace with MOLLI, a PC-based integrated library system. While MOLLI followed a DOS, menu-based approach, Athena embraces the graphical interface of Microsoft Windows. In the general business and home computer world, Windows is rapidly supplanting DOS as the primary operating environment. Athena is one of the first integrated library systems for school libraries that is completely Windows-based—both in the online catalog and for staff functions. As a new product, Athena does not yet enjoy a large customer base. This review offers an early look at a very timely and interesting library automation product.
