INWOOD, WV, June 15, 2001 TLC/CARL a leader in library automation and personalized web portal services today announced that the company's premier automation and management system for large public libraries and consortia has been renamed CARL.Solution. The new name represents the culmination of TLC and CARL's effort to mine the deep functionality of the classic CARL system using intuitive graphical interfaces.
CARL.Solution builds on CARL's noted success with its Information Management Delivery Systems (IMDS), which was first introduced in 1999. The product's new name is indicative of the close working relationship between TLC and CARL, who joined forces as a single entity in July 2000. The comprehensive approach of CARL.Solution includes hardware, software, installation, training, project management, and authority control processing.
Marketplace response to CARL's fully integrated, graphical solution and technology has been strong. Major libraries currently using CARL.Solution include Baltimore County Public, Denver Public, Los Angeles Public and the Phoenix Public Library. CARL.Solution also has an international customer base that includes prominent libraries in Asia and New Zealand, notably Singapore National Library Board, Singapore Ministry of Education, and is currently being installed in Wellington City Libraries in New Zealand.
Benefits to participating libraries are numerous. CARL.Solution offers powerful public access interfaces and user-friendly management software for library staff. The company's OPAC interfaces include a unicode-based multilingual capability allowing easy toggling between English and many other languages, Kid's Catalog Web, with over six thousand pre-selected web sites just for children, and YouSeeMore which enables patrons and staff to create a personalized Web portal with information and resources customized according to individual preferences.
