Charlotte, NC - Convey Systems has installed an interactive librarian feature, AskWendt Live, for the University of Wisconsin's Kurt F. Wendt Library. Using Convey System's web-based, interactive voice, text chat and application share technology, UW-Madison students and faculty members are now able to engage in librarian-assisted research activities, without ever entering the building.
"The library's walls are becoming transparent to the faculty and students of the University of Wisconsin," said John Wanserski, Deputy Director for the Library. "Just as library users in the past needed help finding the right printed book, they now need guidance navigating the online tangle of web-based information. Convey Systems is helping us achieve that for our students."
AskWendt Live, is a real-time service that connects students to a librarian who can use text-chat and voice over IP to help them navigate the library or the web. AskWendt Live uses Convey Systems' interactive software for two-way participation with text-chat, voice and application share features.
Convey Systems' technology provides a library-consulting gateway to distance learning programs in the UW College of Engineering. Students in the Masters of Engineering in Professional Practice program arrange personal, online appointments with an engineering librarian. They are guided by the librarian using chat and voice over IP. The librarian then uses the software's application share feature to lead the student through the specialized literature databases needed for their research.
"Our technology allows the Wendt Library to reach the growing online campus research community," said Mike Sibley, CEO of Convey Systems. "Faculty and students can connect online to a librarian at night from the privacy of their dorm, home or lab, and be guided directly to the web page or proprietary database they need. The University of Wisconsin is ahead of the curve regarding technology in educational settings and we are privileged to serve their interactive program needs."
Kurt F. Wendt Library at the University of Wisconsin serves as the primary campus library for engineering, computer science, statistics and the atmospheric and oceanic sciences. The program is being offered through the university's website, www.wisc.edu/wendt.
