Vancouver, BC (April 24, 2001) - Chancery Software today announces it has selected TKM Software Ltd.'s Z39.50 client, InterCat, for its cross-platform library automation system, Library Pro.
Z39.50 is an international standard composed of specifications for linkage among library computer systems. Librarians and school library users with Internet access are able to search the catalogs and download bibliographic records in MARC format from Z39.50 libraries, often at no charge.
"TKM is the only company to offer the Z39.50 client for both Windows and Macintosh," said Cheryl Oke, Chancery Software's library product specialist. "Having a Z39.50 client available for the Macintosh platform will make us more successful when responding to requests for proposals from prospective library customers."
Three TKM products are available from Chancery Software. InterCat, theWindows client, for Windows 95, 98 and 2000 and Windows NT, can be used to search for, capture, and download bibliographic records in MARC format from any library system using a Z39.50 Internet-accessible server. InterCAT for the Macintosh has the same functionality as the InterCAT product for Windows. InterCAT Pro includes all of the features of InterCAT plus the ability to concurrently search multiple databases. More than 300 libraries are accessible via the InterCat library database.
Previously, Chancery recommended its customers purchase a Z39.50 client from another vendor, but that vendor only offered a Windows-client option. The company's partnership with TKM Software Ltd. Partnership greatly enhances its position among Macintosh-using school libraries.
TKM's Z39.50 clients are available direct from Chancery Software. InterCat is $150, InterCat for the Macintosh is $249, and InterCat Pro is $275.
"We at TKM are excited about the potential provided by the recently completed agreement with Chancery Software," said Ross Eastley, president of TKM Software. "We are very much looking forward to the opportunity to work with Chancery Software. Our current customers have found the InterCAT product line to be cost-efficient cataloguing tools which greatly facilitate the cataloging process."
