Abstract: To meet the growing demand for digitizing capabilities throughout Harvard''s libraries, the Harvard College Library (HCL) Preservation & Imaging Department established a digital imaging facility in the summer of 1999. This article describes the rationale for developing in-house production services, and summarizes the planning, configuration, and first-year implementation phases of the program.
