McHENRY, IL - October 10, 2000 - Upon receipt of grant monies for library automation, more than half of the Chicago Public School District's (CPSD) 79 high schools chose Follett Software Company's award-winning library automation solutions for Windows.
Thirteen of the CPSD schools were previously automated with older Follett Software automation systems. All 13 elected to stay with Follett Software and upgrade and enhance their systems with the company's newer offerings. Thirty-two sites will be implementing Follett Software systems as their first library automation solution.
New System Supports Greater Opportunity for Success
Merrill V. Stegall, head librarian at the district's Whitney Young High School, has been using a Follett Software solution in her library since 1997. "The computerized catalog gives students better access to library materials. It offers a variety of ways to quickly search for information and record those results, such as keyword searching and the bookbag," commented Stegall. "Ultimately, this gives students greater means of finding the information they need and more opportunities for success." (Follett Software's bookbag feature enables students to collect title information and create bibliographies as they search the online catalog.)
Most of the schools are purchasing Follett Software's circulation, cataloging and searching software, as well as the company's new 856Express service, which adds web site links into the online catalog. The schools are also taking advantage of MARC data, implementation and training services.
"As a member of the Chicagoland community, we're proud to serve the Chicago schools," said Tom Schenck, Follett Software president. "We've built a strong relationship with the district and understand their goals. Our powerful automation solutions and experienced staff will ensure they meet them."
