PROVO, Utah. Burnaby Public Library has announced the selection of epixtech, inc. as its library automation vendor and will begin implementation of the Horizon system throughout its library system. Located in southern British Columbia on Canada's west coast, Burnaby is the province's third largest city. It serves a population of 190,000 residents and, with 3,640,000 annual loans, it has the highest per capita circulation of any large library in Canada. Burnaby Public Library will be changing from a JES (formerly Ulysses) system.
The Horizon system represents an integral part of Burnaby Public Library's strategy to incorporate leading-edge technology, which also includes implementing thin clients for staff and OPAC stations. In addition to the move to the Horizon system, the Library is working with epixtech to develop remote booking for Internet workstations.
"Our Horizon system is the cornerstone of this exciting plan and we look forward to partnering with Burnaby Public Library to create a technology showcase library" stated Lana Porter, President/CEO of epixtech, inc. "And with our experienced and knowledgeable staff, we are uniquely positioned to provide Burnaby Public Library with the high level of support and expertise to ensure the success of this visionary strategy."
"With four branches and over 1.7 million annual visits, Burnaby Public Library required a library automation system that could handle the requirements of a very busy public library system," according to Chief Librarian Paul Whitney. "epixtech's Horizon system was the best choice. It met our demanding performance and functionality requirements while providing easy integration with the systems already in place. The superior implementation, training, and ongoing support offered by epixtech were also paramount in our decision. We are particularly excited about the direction epixtech is taking with iPAC. We are looking forward to working with epixtech and with their Horizon system. We feel the direction epixtech is moving is the direction of the future. We chose Horizon as much for epixtech's dedication to the future as for the functionality of the system itself."
