BiblioFile access to RLIN

Library Systems Newsletter [August 1996]

The Research Libraries Group, Inc., (RLG) and The Library Corporation (TLC) plan to enable TLC to give its BiblioFile users access to RLG's RLIN (Research Libraries Information Network) database through TLC's ITS for Windows technical services workstation software. The arrangement will dramatically increase the record resource poo1 from which ITS users can draw for copy cataloging, thus eliminating concerns that some catalogers have expressed in the past about BiblioFile hit rates.

According to a letter of intent completed by the two organizations, TLC will provide access to the RLIN bibliographic and authority databases to ITS users who have Internet access. Using the ITS Z39.50 client against RLG's z39.50 server Zephyr will give users integrated access to both BiblioFile and RLIN records through BiblioFile searching. The only indication that results are not from a BiblioFile CD or hard disk database will be the indication on screen displays that a Z39.50 search has been initiated.
