Blackwell announces CIP upgrade service

Library Systems Newsletter [January 1996]

Blackwell North America has announced availability of its new CIP Upgrade program as an added option of its MARC delivery ser-vice, MARC-WITH-BOOKS. Successful testing of the new service was completed in November 1995, with the participation of five aca-demic and research libraries. The service delivers LC-MARC records to accompany books ordered through Blackwell, and includes upgrading of the approximately 60 percent of records still at CIP level at the time of publication.

Benefits reported by the test libraries include significant productivity gains in cataloging departments, more rapid avail-ability of materials for users, heightened quality control, and elimination of the need to search and transfer records from a utility.
