Chicago Library System serves small libraries through latest library technology--renews contract with epixtech, inc.: The Chicago Library System--they're ready for another three years

Press Release: epixtech, inc. [June 22,2000]

Chicago, Illinois. The Chicago Library System (CLS), a multi-library consortium of Chicago's libraries: academic, special, school and public—has renewed its contract with epixtech, inc., formerly Ameritech Library Systems. The Chicago Library System (CLS) markets many services, including the automation services provided by epixtech, to special and academic libraries in the Chicago and northern Illinois areas.

According to Alice Calibrese, Executive Director of the Chicago Library System, "Since August of 1996, we've had a very productive working relationship with epixtech. The Horizon system is perfect for multi-type library consortia. The reason we re-negotiated our contract with epixtech is because the Horizon system is still the best system available. Our corporate and academic libraries are very different, but those using the systems have been served well by Horizon and Web PAC. In fact, all of our member libraries could benefit from being automated. In the very beginning, I had a vision, and that was to serve even the smallest libraries in order that they could share information. epixtech's Horizon system makes this possible, as it makes automation affordable to even the smallest of libraries."

Lana Porter, President and C.E.O. of epixtech, points out the unique possibilities the Chicago Library System affords. "CLS is a hybrid, as library systems go; and the fact that our automation systems work so well for the small, diverse libraries as well as its large, academic libraries shows the flexibility of our automation systems. As the CLS automates more of its libraries, we will be able not only to serve each of the libraries better, but also we'll be able to grow with them. That's the beauty of epixtech's automation systems."

About the Chicago Library System

The CLS began in 1990 in order to provide all types of libraries in the city of Chicago with interlibrary loans, delivery of materials, automation, continuing education and consulting. Many small, independent and unique libraries have the opportunity through membership in CLS to embrace the technology and expertise existent in large academic institutions. CLS is funded through an area and per capita grant from the Illinois Secretary of State's Office.
