St. Louis, Missouri, USA -- January 23, 1996: Data Research Associates, Inc. (NASDAQ: DRAI) announced today earnings of $420,000 for its first quarter of fiscal 1996, which ended December 31, 1995. The earnings represent a 146 percent increase when compared with $171,000 for the same quarter in fiscal 1995. Earnings per share were 12 cents for the first quarter of fiscal 1996, compared to five cents per share for the same period in fiscal 1995.
Revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 1996 were down 4 percent to $6.7 million, compared with $7.0 million in the first quarter of fiscal 1995.
"DRA's focus on creating a steady income flow from our various revenue sources has helped us continue our trend of strong quarterly results," said Mike Mellinger, President and CEO. "Because of the increased importance of software revenue in the total revenue mix for this quarter, we were able to show strong earnings growth in spite of the slight revenue drop. Gross margin on software also increased this quarter as a result of improved sales of internally developed software, for which we enjoy a significantly higher gross margin than for third-party software purchased for resale."
