1999 SIRS Mandarin M3 library automation system cataloging module incorporates Validation Plus (V+): Powerful Validation Module Offers Unparalleled Depth of Review

Press Release: SIRS, Inc. [April 26, 1999]

SIRS Mandarin M3 Library Automation is the first integrated library system to include the powerful Validation Plus (V+) in its cataloging module. Although other library automation systems offer validation checks, no other system offers a validation module with the depth of review provided by V+.

A truly MARC-based system, M3 requires accurate MARC records to function at its best. With the click of a button, M3 catalogers can check their records for invalid coding, non-repeatable fields that are repeated and obsolete coding.

On occasion, all catalogers use non-standard coding. V+ tables can be customized for local usage, ensuring accurate and valid MARC record coding. For more sophisticated M3 catalogers, V+ checks language codes, country codes, geographic area codes, relator codes and more, in both fixed and variable fields. Less sophisticated users can choose only the specific checks that meet their needs.

In addition to standard validation, V+ also includes the unique TMQ Error Checker. A feature not found in any other standard validation checker, the Error Checker catches common cataloging and coding errors. Best of all, when USMARC changes, M3 users will no longer have to tediously update their own tables. V+ will be automatically updated with the latest MARC changes and cataloging checks.

V+ is a product of The MARC of Quality. MARC specialists helping catalogers make better MARC records.
