Chalmers University of Technology selects INNOPAC Millennium

Press Release: Innovative Interfaces, Inc. [December 23, 1998]

December 23, 1998. Chalmers University of Technology, located in Gothenburg, has signed a contract with SLS Information Systems, the European division of Innovative Interfaces, to upgrade their current LIBERTAS library management system to INNOPAC Millennium during the Summer of 1999. The decision was taken after a thorough analysis which started last year following the purchase of SLS by Innovative.

Library Director Dr Jan Rohlin said: "We are confident that INNOPAC Millennium provides the powerful platform we need to continue the development of our library services in the future. Another key issue is that we want to continue the long and fruitful co-operation we have had with SLS, and now Innovative. Trusting the supplier is just as important as trusting the software."

Tore Lund, Systems Librarian at Chalmers added: "INNOPAC's high quality Web OPAC and its good functionality were important factors in our decision. We think it's the right system both for our users and for our staff. A smooth interface to the LIBRIS cataloguing and ILL services was a requirement, and we are satisfied that INNOPAC Millennium will provide this."

The Chalmers library system consists of the main library and two branches. There is also a large number of "non-public" departmental libraries on the campus, most of which will now merge their catalogues into the main system. The scoping facility within INNOPAC Millennium will be used to differentiate access to the system where necessary.

Sales Consultant Folke Andersson, of SLS/Innovative in Stockholm, is happy to see Chalmers as the first academic library in Sweden to join the group of INNOPAC Millennium users, "Chalmers has always been a favourite customer, often demanding, pushing the limits and using the system in all its aspects. We expect Chalmers to be a great partner and an active member of the Nordic User Group."

Chalmers University of Technology is one of the two top technology universities in Sweden. The university is located in Gothenburg on the west coast of Sweden; it has 8,500 students and 1,500 teachers and research staff. The library catalog holds 225,000 bibliographic records and serves over 25,000 users. There are around 3,000 serial subscriptions.
