May 2, 1997. The Dallas County Community College District will soon be installing its INNOPAC Millennium system from Innovative Interfaces to replace its existing NOTIS system.
Comprised of seven colleges located strategically throughout Dallas County, the library serves as the information hub for approximately 45,000 credit and 45,000 non-credit students per semester and over 2,000 full-time faculty and staff members. The Dallas County Community College District is a comprehensive two-year system comprising seven colleges: Brookhaven, Cedar Valley, Eastfield, El Centro, Mountain View, North Lake and Richland.
According to Paul Dumont, DCCCD Director of Technical Services, "The Dallas County Community College District was one of the original library automation pioneers. The library has been automated now for 20 years. We knew we had to replace our NOTIS system and we were looking for a vendor that had a strong and functionally solid product with a proven track record. Innovative's INNOPAC Millennium system is a great fit. DCCCD can now take advantage of Innovative's robust functionality that has been continuously evolving over the years. With INNOPAC Millennium, the district is well-positioned to harness the power of the Web, which is bound to play a greater role as we head into the next century."
Innovative recently announced plans to evolve its popular INNOPAC product line into a Web-based library automation system known as INNOPAC Millennium. Development plans are well underway at Innovative to make all of the INNOPAC software modules available on the World Wide Web through the incorporation of Java™ Applets and "thin-client" technology.
"I've also been very impressed with how smoothly the entire data load process is going. Innovative staff is very knowledgeable about NOTIS migrations which makes the implementation process a very productive time", added Dumont. The Dallas County Community College District plans to have the new system ready for use for the fall 1997 semester.
