TORONTO, Ont., January 12, 1999. A-G Canada Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Auto-Graphics Inc., a leading provider of online database and resource-sharing services for public, school and university libraries, today announced the appointment of Brian Morrell as general manager of A-G Canada.
Morrell brings to his new position more than 25 years of experience in library environments, including the past 17 years with A-G Canada and its predecessor, ISM Library Information Services, which was acquired by Auto-Graphics in 1997. Earlier, he served 10 years with Mount Allison University Library as a reference librarian and head of the cataloguing department.
In his most recent position as manager of bibliographic services at A-G Canada, Morrell managed the migration of the acquired database of more than 50 million records from a proprietary Tandem system to open network standards consistent with Auto-Graphics' technology roadmap for all North American operations. A-G Canada's new cataloguing support system: Impact/MARCit: provides access to databases from PCs equipped with a web browser. Impact/MARCit also provides tools to library staffs for editing and creating records and supports the Z39.50 standard for seamless access to numerous external databases.
During Morrell's tenure at ISM, he held successively more responsible positions in marketing and customer service before being named to his most recent position in 1994. He is a graduate of Mount Allison University and earned a master's degree in Library Science at the University of Western Ontario.
A-G Canada operates the largest Canadian and second largest North American cataloguing resource, consisting of bibliographic and authority records.
