POMONA, Calif., June 27, 1997 -- A major shortcut to information and ideas contained in thousands of magazines and journals is now available to public and school library patrons through the online services of Auto-Graphics, Inc., which today announced an agreement to deliver full-text databases of EBSCO Publishing.
The old method of using a magazine index to locate subject references and then going in search of the publication, often on microfiche, is rapidly becoming obsolete, according to William J. Kliss, chief operating officer at Auto-Graphics. "The current trend is one electronic interface to library catalogs, indexes and full-text databases, with information acquisition in one continuous operation," he said.
A familiar name to librarians and reference desks, EBSCO Publishing full-text and bibliographic databases address a wide range of general and scholastic interests, including:
- Primary Search and Middle Search Plus are reference products designed specifically for elementary and middle school libraries and children's rooms in public libraries.
- MasterFile FullTEXT covers 3100 magazines with as many as 1500 full-text titles covering various subjects for general research.
- MAS FullTEXT Premier, Select and Elite products are comprehensive general reference databases of more than 500 general interest magazines with as many as 210 in full-text, journals and books reviews oriented toward high school and junior college libraries.
- Public Library FullTEXT includes nearly 850 popular titles complete with 125 magazines in full-text.
- General Science Source provides abstracts of more than 200 general science periodicals and the full text of 50 titles.
"EBSCO Publishing is extremely pleased to enter into this agreement with Auto-Graphics," said Joe Tragert, manager of Product Development. "We are impressed with the quality of their search interface and look forward to providing EBSCO databases to the library communities they serve with their Impact/ONLINE* and Impact/ACCESS products."
Impact/ONLINE is a family of automated products developed by Auto-Graphics for resource sharing among library consortia in the United States and Canada. Impact/ACCESS is the module that enables patron access to library consortia catalogs through facilities of the Internet and World Wide Web either provided by libraries or by home and business computers.
"Auto-Graphics was the first provider of consortia services to offer commercial database and union catalog access via a common web interface, and the EBSCO databases add considerable new breadth to full-text resources shared by our customers," Kliss said.
